LEFTOVER CUTIES ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF ALL-COVERS EP “DEPARTURES” DUE OUT MAY 15TH

Los Angeles-based noir-pop quintet Leftover Cuties have announced the release of their all-covers EP called Departures due out May 15th. The forthcoming record boasts special arrangements and interpretations of the songs “Trouble” by Coldplay, “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” by Bob Dylan, “Fidelity” by Regina Spektor, “At Last” by Etta James, “You Are My Sunshine” (by Gene Autry, Bing Crosby & others) and “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga.

Singer Shirli McAllen explains, “One of the things we love to do as a band is put our spin on songs by other artists and make them our own. We are excited to share our favorite covers by some of music’s very best songwriters. We hope you enjoy!”

Leftover Cuties chose the title “Departures” for the Jake Sinclair-produced (Weezer, Pink, Butch Walker) collection of personal picks as a nod to their album Places To Go that came out in Spring 2011. The name reflects the travel theme set forth by the album, but also represents that each song is an innovation from the original version – highlighting the band’s new and unique twist on the tunes. Departures also follows the band’s critically acclaimed debut, Game Called Life EP, featuring the breakout title track, and theme song to the Showtime hit series The Big C: http://youtu.be/fxZL0LIxK-Y.

A limited edition physical version of Departures, as well as a digital edition of the EP is currently available to preorder at: www.leftovercuties.com. All preorders come with immediate downloads of “Fidelity” and “You Are My Sunshine.”

With an ode to Gatsby-era debauchery and smoke-filled jazz joints, Leftover Cuties will steal your heart and thrill your soul. McAllen’s velvety vocals combine seamlessly with Austin Nicholsen (ukulele), Stuart Johnson (drums), Mike Bolger (keys, horns, accordion) and Ryan Feves (bass) in a way that pays homage to the sophisticated, sultry sounds of yesteryear while embracing the tones of today.

Filter Magazine praises, “Leftover Cuties are a group that are making their mark on the current music scene,” influential L.A. radio station KROQ raves, “Lead vocalist Shirli McAllen exudes an intoxicating flare of confidence, playing masseuse on your ears and sucking you in with her sugary sweet vocals,” and Music Connection Magazine lauds, “Leftover Cuties are a talented group with a unique sound to call their own, one that separates them from the vast sea of bands on the scene.”
