Smackdown Coverage: More of the Same isn’t a Bad Thing

With a fatal four-way main event to decide the #1 contender for Sheamus’ World Heavyweight Championship, this show had great potential, especially after the fun that was Raw 1000.

Sure enough, the fun continued on as the Kansas City fans were treated to some great matches.

Matches:

1-WWE Intercontinental Championship- The Miz vs. Christian: Christian didn’t wait long to invoke his rematch clause since he lost the IC Title to Miz on Raw 1000. These two work great in the ring, as they went back-and-forth with high-impact moves. Miz came out victorious with a thumb to the eye and a handful of tights on a School Boy pin.

2-Jinder Mahal vs. Ryback: Surprisingly, Mahal got in his share of offense. He attempted to put Ryback to bed with his Camel Clutch, but Ryback got out of it. Ryback went for his vicious clothesline and Mahal escaped the ring and the match, which gave Ryback the countout victory. It’s obvious there will be more to come from these two, but Ryback in an actual feud is hopeful.

3-Sheamus vs. Cody Rhodes: Rhodes had Sheamus down in the corner of the ring when Dolph Ziggler came out and stood on the ramp with his briefcase. Rhodes continued to stay on Sheamus, but Sheamus slowly started to fight back. Sheamus caught Rhodes in mid-air and hit the White Noise, followed by the Brogue Kick for the 1-2-3. Ziggler teased a cash-in after the match but decided not to as he backed up the ramp, only to be thrown back in the ring by Chris Jericho and Ziggler was hit by the Brogue Kick. Jericho entered the ring after Sheamus left and hit Ziggler with the Code Breaker. No complaints. Everybody looked good.

4-Antonio Cesaro (w/Aksna) vs. Santino Marella: Cesaro took care of the United States champion with his vicious Gotch-Style Neutralizer finisher.

5-Yoshi Tatsu vs. Damien Sandow: Sandow didn’t have a good Monday night, as he was beat down by D-Generation X. Sandow took his aggression out on Tatsu as he bashed his head against the ringside barricade and made quick work of him, as he finished him off with a neckbreaker. After the bell, Sandow claimed himself to be a “martyr” for the WWE Universe. More of the same, but that’s not a bad thing.

6-No Disqualification #1 Contender Fatal Four-Way- Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio (w/Ricardo Rodriguez) vs. Kane vs. Daniel Bryan: The action was hot from the get-go as all four former champions went at it. Trainwreck-style match, but it was fun while it lasted. Bryan took Kane out with a dive on the outside that drove Kane over the barricade. Mysterio hit a double 6-1-9 on both Bryan and Del Rio and splashed on top of Bryan and went for the pin. Ricardo Rodriguez pulled Mysterio out of the ring at two and Del Rio covered Bryan to get the pin. Great finish.

Final Thoughts: Overall, a good show that will be remembered for Miz-Christian, Sheamus-Rhodes and the Main Event Fatal Four-Way. As Summerslam gets closer, things look better and better. WWE has finally started to shake things up.
