Iron Man 3 Trailer Thoughts

Last summer Marvel studios released The Avengers and the world fell in love. Marvel has since moved on, taking Robert Downey Jr. along for the ride. In April 2013 that same ride will stop in theatres with Marvel’s “Iron Man 3.”

We last left off Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) celebrating a defeat over Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) with his love interest/assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Things have since changed for our favorite arrogant attention-grabbing ion-cannon wielder.

Stark is now suffering from depression and insomnia. He feels an obligation to protect Ms. Potts but doubts his own abilities. His doubts become reality as his home is destroyed, his Iron Man suits blown up and his fears of not being able to protect the people he loves becoming a grim reality.

Magnificent camera shots set up the CGI explosions and set the mood for what is in store for Stark. The ever cool billionaire, playboy, philanthropist is reduced to mere rubble under his coastal palace.

Downey Jr. headlines this star-studded cast including Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley as “The Mandarin” in what appears to be Marvel’s next tour de force. In order to surpass the success of The Avengers Marvel will have to bring their big guns. With this trailer they are eager to embrace the challenge.

The Mandarin leaves us a quip of wisdom as the trailer comes to an eventful conclusion: “Lesson number one: Heroes… there is no such thing.”
