If TNA Had Slammy Awards

With the 2012 Slammy Awards over and done with, Review Fix picks their own winners, this time for TNA. From The Most Shocking Moment of the Year, to Superstar of the Year, Review Fix Wrestling Guru Patrick Hickey Jr. breaks down his choices for the awards.

Tell Me I Just Did Not See That Award: Jeff Hardy’s win over TNA World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries wasn’t a shocker, but it went against the grain. Aries was super over as a face and Hardy’s longstanding personal issues made it a controversial decision at the time. Although Hardy is proving now to be a solid champion, at the moment, it was a bit of an eyebrow raiser.

Comeback of the Year: Samoa Joe’s run as the Television Champion gave him back some of the legitimacy he’s lost over the past two years in the mid-card. Although Devon was quick to win it back, Joe is in the middle of the Aces & Eights angle, which can only lead to good things for him.

Kiss of the Year: Sadly, TNA hasn’t had too much steam this year, but Eric Young and ODB’s angle earlier in the year produced a hearty helping of smooches. The company’s cutest couple, they deserve this award more than anyone.

Superstar of the Year: Austin Aries’ win over Robert Roode catapulted him to the type of status he’s deserved for a while. After he rejuvenated the X-Division, he did the same with the World Title, which was in need of some new energy. Although he lost the title way too soon to Jeff Hardy, the feud those two are currently in is some of the company’s best work in quite some time.

LOL Moment of the Year: Madison Rayne and Earl Hebner’s make-out session was definitely a weird moment and one that induced laughs.

Trending Now Hashtag of the Year: Although TNA tries to rock the social media scene like the WWE, there wasn’t one instance of the company taking over the trending section of the site the way their competition does.

Newcomer of the Year: The Aces and Eights angle has taken over TNA creative and barely anything has been exposed yet. 2013 may prove to be their year as well, as more members will be unmasked and the group can truly begin their reign of carnage in the company.

Match of the Year: Austin Aries vs. Robert Roode I was a work of wrestling art. The amount of counters and near-falls alone made for an interesting encounter, but to see the X-Division star hit the bigger Roode with a Brainbuster for the win was a perfect ending to a match and a fantastic beginning to Aries’ reign as champion.
