TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: Cage Ready

The go-home show before Lockdown, this week’s Impact Wrestling made sure to tease every match for this weekend’s pay per view, but added little else in terms of solid wrestling. While there was some intrigue, with more Tigre Uno and Willow promos and one for the returning Kenny King, most of the matches were throwaways, aside from the Bobby Roode/Davey Richards main event.

While the general storytelling has been enjoyable since MVP arrived, the thought of Jeff Hardy appearing on MVP’s team at Lockdown is perplexing. With his Willow character getting more attention every week, it’s a wonder TNA could get someone else to fill the last spot for the Eight-Man tag for control of the company.

Sadly, it’s a fail on TNA’s part that tarnishes five or six weeks of good booking. While it won’t ruin Lockdown, it certainly doesn’t help.

Matches:

Six-Man Elimination Tag for Extra Man at Lockdown: MVP, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards vs. TNA Tag Team Champion Robbie E., Bobby Roode and X-Division Champion Austin Aries: MVP quickly eliminated Robbie E. with a Yakuza Kick, while the Wolves worked on Roode. Aries quickly came to the help of Roode and eliminated Edwards with the Brainbuster. Aries proved to be a difference maker later, holding MVP’s legs while Roode rolled up MVP to eliminate him. Roode and Aries quickly punished Richards, applying strikes and signature moves at their leisure. Richards did fight back though and got Roode in a Single-Leg Crab, but Aries got eliminated via DQ after he nailed Richards with a chair. With Richards apparently injured, referee Earl Hebner suspended the match for an hour in order to allow Richards to tend to his wounds after the Aries cheap shot.

Samuel Shaw vs. Eric Young: The London crowd loves Young and they made sure he knew it, screaming every time he landed a move. The “creepy bastard” chant for Shaw was a given after Anderson made his way to the ramp and announced him as such before the bell. After about five minutes of trading offense, Shaw got Young on the outside and threw hot tea in his face (to earn the DQ) and then threw his him into Anderson. With Anderson dispatched, Shaw locked his Judo-Styled Kata-Gatame choke out on his Lockdown opponent to get the momentum swing in his way.

Gail Kim, The Alpha Female, Lei’D Tapa w/ Chris Sabin vs. ODB, Velvet Sky and Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne: A mess of a match that saw Sabin try to attack Sky. After Sky took care of Sabin, she finished off the awful Alpha Female with her signature Sit-Out Pedigree for the win.

Bobby Roode vs. Davey Richards: The young wolf put up a valiant fight, but Roode eventually got the win with the RoodeBomb/Crossface combination.
