Quantum and Woody: Goat #0 Review: A Disaster

“Quantum and Woody” are two accidental superheroes who can’t stand each other. They also have a goat that seems to be their unofficial mascot. “Quantum and Woody: Goat #0” delves into the goat’s backstory- it needs to be put out to pasture.

The story really shouldn’t have been written. It’s a bunch of random scenes that have nothing to do with each other, coupled with poor writing. Yes, it does show the goat getting his “powers” and the first time he met Woody when he was a kid. It just doesn’t seem to add to anything.

On top of that, it is one of the most boring stories ever. The events in the comic aren’t all that interesting, have no rhyme or reason and the series could live without any of it.

It’s almost as if Asmus and Fowler don’t care anymore about quality. One of the biggest and most irritating things is when the goat goes to some South American country. Here the writer has the locals speak Spanish and instead of a translation they put a footnote that says, “Dear reader-please consider learning a second language. Bilingualism is its own adventure.” While that is good advice, it makes you sound like a jerk when you write it in a comic. If that note wasn’t in the comic that would’ve been fine; Since it is it’s more of an insult to the reader than being clever.

The art also has some dark spots to it. It can all be chocked up to laziness. The characters facial expressions look like they were tacked on the last second, many of the designs look like no effort was put into them, thus looking more like well drawn stick figures. The goat is the only thing that looks like it was drawn by a professional.

“Quantum and Woody: Goat #0” is an insultingly terrible comic with poor writing, story and art. Just like many #0 comics this one has no reason to exist except because the almighty dollar said so. Looks like goat is on the menu tonight.
