WWE RAW Coverage: Roman Wants the Gold

When Damien Sandow and Adam Rose weren’t selling hot dogs for Sonic and Jerry Lawler and the rest of the announce team weren’t begging viewers to purchase the WWE Network, this week’s RAW wasn’t half bad.

It’s wasn’t half good either though. With the Sting announcement for “WWE 2K15,” and a small appearance from Ric Flair, there wasn’t enough surprises on the go-home show for Battleground.

But with a slew of matches used to set up the Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal, as well as the detente between Alexander Rusev and Jack Swagger and the chilling six-man Main Event, the show still served as a decent setup for this weekend’s Battleground pay per view.

Matches:

United States Champion Sheamus vs. The Miz: Miz was out to protect “The Moneymaker” throughout the match and was quick to escape the ring whenever things got a bit too rough for his liking. As the match went on Miz hit his signature DDT, but Sheamus was always a step ahead with the Rolling Senton a Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreakerand other signature maneuvers. But after Sheamus missed the Brogue Kick, Miz stacked him up with a School Boy for the surprise win.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Fandango: Ziggler won with the Fameasser after Layla and Summer Rae distracted Fandango by dancing on the announce table. After the match, they even danced with Ziggler.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam: A good back and forth, yet short match that saw Del Rio win via submission with his Arm Bar after he countered RVD’s Five-Star Frog Splash.

Nikki Bella vs. Alicia Fox and Cameron: Bella nearly won with the Alabama Slam, but was constantly out-numbered. After prolonging the beating for a few extra minutes, Fox won with a Modified Jumping Arm Breaker.

Antonio Cesaro vs. Big E. Langston w/Kofi Kingston: Langston won with The Big Ending after Kingston stopped Cesaro from using a chair.

Divas Champion AJ Lee vs. Eva Marie: Lee made quick work of Marie with the Black Widow.

Bo Dallas vs. The Great Khali: Dallas got slapped around, but hit the Running Bo-Dog on the outside to win the match via count-out.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena and Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins, Randy Orton and Kane: Cena and Reigns were in a tough spot for most of the match as Kane in particular hit strikes at will. Once Cena and Rollins were tagged in, the pace quickened up, but interference from Kane allowed Rollins to keep control. Although Cena tried the Attitude Adjustment on Kane later in the match, he couldn’t find the strength. Once tagged in Reigns hit the Samoan Drop and Superman Punch on Orton and Kane, but couldn’t finish off Orton, thanks to Kane. As both Orton and Kane continued to beat on Reigns, the match was thrown out. After the bell, Cena helped clear the ring, while Orton eventually hit the RKO on Kane, before Reigns ended the night with a Spear on Orton.
