WWE Survivor Series Coverage: Enter Sting

While Nikki Bella won the Divas Championship and Dean Ambrose went AWOL against Bray Wyatt, the only match that anyone will remember at this year’s Survivor Series was the Main Event.

After the end of The Authority’s reign of terror and Sting’s debut, Survivor Series was the best pay per view of 2014.

With plenty of change on the way, WWE hasn’t been this interesting since the Summer of Punk.

Matches:

Kickoff: Justin Gabriel vs. Fandango w/Rosa Mendez: With new attire, music and valet, Fandango made quick work of Gabriel with the Top Rope Guillotine Leg Drop.

Kickoff: Antonio Cesaro vs. Jack Swagger w/Zeb Colter: Swagger couldn’t put Cesaro away early with the Ankle Lock and Cesaro fought back with strikes and Suplexes. However, Cesaro’s ability with the German Suplex ended up biting him in the rear, as Swagger countered a German into the Ankle Lock for the Submission win.

Fatal Four Way: WWE Tag Team Champions Goldust and Stardust vs. Los Matadores Diego and Fernando w/ El Torito vs. Jimmy and Jey Uso vs. The Miz and Damien Sandow: The crowd called for Sandow the entire match. The Usos and Goldust and Stardust stole the show with some great work, but after a series of High Flying maneuvers that ended with the Uso Splash, Miz took out Jey Uso before Sandow tagged himself in and stole the pin-fall.

Divas Survivor Series Match: Alicia Fox, Emma, Naomi and Natalya w/Tyson Kidd vs. Paige, Cameron, Layla and Summer Rae: The “We want Mizdow” chants didn’t stop- and for good, reason, this was a stinker. Well, more so in the early going. There were a few minutes there when every Diva stepped up and worked. After a slew of signature moves that sped up the pace, Naomi eliminated Cameron with a Rollup. It was Fox then who went on a tear- no member of the other team wanted to be in the ring with her. After Layla got stuck in the ring with her, Fox eliminated her with the Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker. Emma then got in on the action, scoring a submission win with her Emma Lock on Rae, leaving Paige all by herself. After all members of the team got a few licks on Paige, eventually got the win following the Rear View and a Head-Scissor Face Jam.

Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt: Talk about back and forth. These two beat the crap out of each other both in and out of the ring, trading strikes for a good ten minutes before they began to really cook. After both competitors avoided each others’ finishers, Wyatt connected with the Urinage Suplex for the near-fall, but Ambrose fought back with a Clothesline and an Elbow Drop on a standing Wyatt. Hitting a nasty Clothesline and then the Urinage on the outside ring steps, Wyatt had his first real advantage of the night. But rather than finish him off, he grabbed a mic, telling Ambrose, “He chose his path.” Bring a steel chair in the ring, Ambrose stole the chair and used the chair to get DQed. Ambrose then finished off Wyatt with the Dirty Deeds on the chair. After that, Ambrose set a table and placed an already destroyed Wyatt on it and Elbow Dropped him through it. Add in about six other steel chairs, a ladder and another table and you get the point. Ambrose found a new level of destruction, even with the loss.

Adam Rose and Bunny vs. Heath Slater and Titus O’Neil: Ironically, Bunny got the win with the Missile Dropkick on Slater, but Rose was left after the match by Bunny and his rosebuds.

Nikki Bella w/ Brie Bella vs. Divas Champion AJ Lee: Distracted after Brie Bella locked lips with her, Lee walked right into a Rackbuster for the quick and shocking loss.

Survivor Series Matchup: Team Cena: John Cena, Ryback, Erick Rowan, Dolph Ziggler and Big Show vs. Team Authority: Seth Rollins, Kane, United States Champion Alexander Rusev w/Lana, Intercontinental Champion Luke Harper and Mark Henry w/Joey Mercury, Jamie Noble, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H: Things got off to a rocky start for The Authority as Henry was knockout by Show just seconds into the match. Rollins was then thrown around by Rowan and Ryback. Once Rusev got in the ring, things broke down and Rollins hit Ryback with the Curb Stomp behind the ref’s back and Rusev finished him off with the Super Kick to even things up.

Harper and Ziggler soon traded blows and Harper nearly put him away with a Swinging Side Effect Slam. With Rusev back in the ring and then Kane, Ziggler took more punishment, nearly getting pinned again after Kane’s signature Sidewalk Slam. Still taking punishment, Ziggler took signature maneuvers from every person on Team Authority after Rollins nailed him with the Downward Spiral variation on the second turnbuckle. Things then broke down after Ziggler nearly pinned Rusev, causing Cena to hit Harper with the Attitude Adjustment and a series of other finishers including a Show Chokeslam. With the action spilled to the outside, Rusev tried to Splash on Ziggler from one announce table to the other, but Ziggler moved out of the way and Rusev was eventually counted out to give Team Cena the advantage again.

Ziggler then avoided a Kane Chokeslam and tagged in Cena, who hit the Belly-to-Back Suplex and Five-Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment, but another Rollins Curb Stomp stopped Cena in his tracks. After Harper and Rowan tango-ed for a bit a Rollins Drive-By allowed Harper to hit the Discus Clothesline to eliminate Rollins.

With three competitors left each, Big Show hit Cena in the face with the KO punch to turn his back on Team Cena. Soon walking out of the match, Show was counted out, leaving Ziggler the last member of Team Cena.

Not yet out, Ziggler ended up beating Kane with a massive Super Kick and the Zig-Zag. Harper then quickly jumped on Ziggler with a Boot and a awesome Super Kick, but Ziggler kicked out. A Sit-Out Powerbomb later and Ziggler was still alive. Just when it appeared Harper was set to pin Ziggler, the Show Off scored the pin fall thanks to a Roll Up and plenty of tights, making it a one-on-one match between Ziggler and Rollins.

Ziggler nearly won twice with a School Boy and a DDT and at that moment, it was obvious you were watching something special. Ziggler then kicked out of a Turnbuckle Powerbomb, forcing Rollins to ponder what he had to do to get the win. After a missed Top Rope Curb Stomp, Ziggler nearly got the win with the Fame Asser. After a Ziggler Zig-Zag, Triple H broke up the pin. After Ziggler took out the goon squad, Ziggler hit another Zig-Zag, but Triple H took out that referee, too. Triple H then hit a massive Clothesline and the Pedigree on Ziggler. After Triple H called out another referee to count the final pin-fall, Sting made his WWE debut and took out referee Scott Armstrong and then locked eyes with Triple H. After minutes of staring, the two faced off and Sting hit the Reverse DDT to take out Triple H before he put Ziggler on top of Rollins to earn Team Cena the win.
