Inside NBA Live 16

alt= Patrick Hickey Jr. sits down with EA Sports Ryan Santos and Connor Duggan at Terminal 23 to discuss the visual upgrades and new “Pro-Am” mode in this year’s game. After the huge improvement from “Live 14” to “Live 15,” Santos and Duggan share their thoughts on the development process and how they’d like “Live 16” to be remembered.

The series has made tremendous jumps the last two years, I mean, ‘NBA Live 14,’ ‘NBA Live 15’ are completely different games. What was the pressure like in the development cycle this year trying to make a better game than what you made last year?

Connor Duggan: Ryan started early on ‘14,’ right?

Ryan Santos: Yeah, I started, like, sort of in the middle of pre-production of ‘14.’

And then I came for like the last little bit. So, having it come out, and being, from a quality standpoint, not where we wanted to be was obviously tough. ‘15’ was huge pressure. But then ‘16’ it was like, ‘let’s make a game that…’ We were, like, in a position where we didn’t have to make a game that just worked; we could make a game with good features in it, ya know? Which was an interesting jump, and it’s only gonna get better and better.

It’s like, OK, there are some systems in our games and some things we’d like to better, but those are becoming fewer and fewer, and now we can get a little bit more creative with what we decide to and how we decide to do it as opposed to just kind of making it work … now we can make it great.
