Review Fix Exclusive: Fitty Smallz Talks Thunda Thighs

This past October, America’s only “fitness rapper,” professional public speaker and Pilates instructor, Fitty Smallz released his new video “Thunda Thighs,” where fitness, fun and sexiness are all combined. discussing the inspiration behind his work and his goals for 2016, Review Fix got the inside scoop on everything Fitty Smallz.

Review Fix: How did you come up with the idea of “Thunda Thighs”?

Smallz: Well, that’s a pretty interesting question because every new song has gone through creative process to try to come up with the concept and one of the main foundations of that we do in terms of the songs that we produce is that it has some humor, obviously. We’d like to deliver our music with a little bit of humor and it has to have some message to it. Something related to fitness.  ‘Thunda Thighs’ was kind of a natural progression, I was actually sleeping and I kind of woke up in the middle of the night and I had this kind of hook in my head –Thunder Thunda Thighs- just out of nowhere without a beat without anything.

Review Fix: How involved are you in the creative part of the videos?

Smallz: Totally, I mean, I write storyboards 100 percent, initially I did all of them. I never hired a writer, I never had anybody even helped me until ‘Thunda Thighs’. I write all the lyrics with my partners and then I come up with a concept for the video and then I make the first draft of the storyboard and I have other people give me feedback after I write the draft. And I’m also an executive producer of all of my projects, so, I do all the castings. I’m very involved with every detail.

Review Fix: How long did it take you to finish the “Thunda Thighs” project entirely?

Smallz: By the time we wrote the song and master it and then came up with the concept, shot it, launched it.  It probably took from nine to ten months.   We shot in Lake Forest, California. They –the staff- set up the studio in two days. We were in the studio for about 15 to 16 shooting this video.

Review Fix: In most of you videos, I see some kind of fitness involved “Thunda Thighs” is not the exception and you are known as America’s first fitness rap star. Why is fitness so important to you and what is the message that you are trying to convey to your fans?

Smallz: Well, so ‘Thunda Thighs’ has probably more fitness than any of the videos. The reason why fitness is so important to me is because I’m fitness professional. I’ve been in the fitness industry for 34 years, I’ve operated more fitness centers and created more brands than probably   most people in the history of the industry. I’m a fully certified Pilate’s instructor, so I take my level of fitness and health very seriously. I was a competition body builder in my 30’s. My passion started out as being really a personality that can inspire, motivate, educate, empower and entertain, that is the foundation of my platform and my mission statement.”

Review Fix: So, you consider yourself more as a fitness figure than as a Rap figure?

Smallz: I’m definitely more of a fitness professional because I’ve been doing that my whole life. I think that when I came up with the idea about music I was like ok, I have this idea and I want to try it. The Fitty Smallz platform and what I do right now as original music is very new. Fitty Smallz is only 1 ½ years old. I’ve trained and developed thousands of fitness professionals all over the world. When I look at Fitty Smallz my goal is to impact people directly outside the gym environment.

Review Fix: In your video “Thunda Thighs,” we see Dani Mathers, the 2015 playmate of the year and Instagram’s ‘It Girl,’ Lindsey Pelas. Why did you use these girls and how was it to work with them?

Smallz: Well, it has to meet the criteria of why would I want them in my video in the first place and then what value they add to it. I think that for every project you have to come up with what’s the formula for delivering the message, but then also who the people that are in it that are are going to impact and help promote the message. So, Lindsey has 2.5 millions followers on Instagram and Dani doesn’t have quite as many, but she is beautiful. They are both fit and they believe in health and fitness. And working with them was amazing.
