WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Ziggler Does It Again

Last week, the WWE kicked off the new era with a major and extremely successful episode ofMonday Night Raw. Titles changed hands, a new and fresh main event was set for the biggest party of the summer, and a new title was named. Truly historic and eye-opening, as Raw was an absolute bigger and brighter scene then it has seemed to be in the past year, and on the second edition last night Raw didn’t fail at all. On the other hand, Smackdown Live seemed to fall into the cracks of obscurity and failure. Was the big blue ship of professional wrestling turned around on the second week of action? Let’s take a look at the card.

Segments/Matches:

Smackdown Live opened up this week with the commissioner Shane McMahon and the GM of Smackdown Daniel Bryan reprimanding the mayor of Viper Ville, Randy Orton for invading Raw and delivering a savage RKO out of nowhere on the beast Brock Lesnar. Security guarded every aspect of the Smackdown set to attempt to prevent a logical prediction of vengeance from The Beast.

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose and fresh-challenger for the WWE title at Summerslam Dolph Ziggler had an intense and eye opening promo to promote their match, but when it was all said and done, Ziggler was attacked by Bray Wyatt and a match was set in motion. Bray vs. Dolph in the main event, winner goes on to Summerslam as the challenger for the World title.

Triple Threat: Winner Faces Miz for I.C title at Summerslam: Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin vs. Kalisto: A truly fresh matchup with an unsurprising result, after heavy battle between these three foes, Apollo Crews scored the roll-up on Kailsto and won the match.

After the match, complete mayhem broke as Corbin beat the living hell out of Kalisto. Crews attempted to make the save but was hit with a skull crushing finale from the hollywood champion, The Miz. Kalisto ate an end of days, and that was all she wrote.

Eva Marie vs. Becky Lynch: This matchup was set for one fall, but that all changed during Marie’s entrance. As she jumped off the second rope after posing in the corner to start the match, she Marie began to wobble her way to the opposite side of the ring. The match was abruptly stopped and Eva Marie was escorted to the back by medical personnel. Was it a work? Or was it a, it was definitely a real injury that happened prematurely to the bell even ringing. A humorous one at that, as Eva Marie made her entrance. This speaks volumes to the harsh criticism Eva has received since arriving on the scene in 2013. A pretty face, who still has a lot to prove in the ring.

American Alpha: Chad Gable vs. Vaudvillians: Aiden English and Simon Gotch: An impressive one sided debut match for the athletic duo of Jordan and Gable. The duo scored the pinfall after they hit their impressive finisher the “Grand Amplitude.” It is a heavy and optimistic prediction that these two are set for WWE tag team gold.

The setup for the rubber match between A.J Styles and John Cena is set for Summerslam. These two delivered a passionate and kayfabe crushing setup to what is and what could be the match of the year.

Randy Orton vs. Fandango w/ Tyler Breeze: It was inevitable that the beast would want revenge on the viper after RAW last night, and he got what he wanted. This match ended in a predictable DQ finish, stemming three weeks from what many have deemed a “dream match.”

Heath Slater is on a mission for a contract, after delivering an emotional promo last week, Slater got gored by the “Man Beast” Rhyno. This week it happened again, next week Slater will endure match with Rhyno to earn a contract to the blue brand. Will he succeed?

Dolph Ziggler vs. Bray Wyatt: It’s all about the WWE World Heavyweight title and these two tore the house down in an amazing Smackdown main event. Chemistry with a capital C. The answer to our prayers are being answered as the Super Kick is once again a finisher. Ziggler retains his opportunity, the biggest one of his career to date, Summerslam is truly the biggest party of the summer.

Following the main event, The Wyatt’s (Rowan and Bray), dominated both Ziggler and Ambrose. Is the main event of Smackdown Live next week set?
