WWE Clash of Champions Coverage: Reigns Wins US Title, Rollins Screwed

A new United States Champion in Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho’s screw job of Seth Rollins capped off a decent Clash of Champions event that did little to advance any storylines, but was enjoyable in terms of in-ring action.

Lacking in terms of excitement, it’s fair to say that Smackdown has won the battle of first pay per views.

WWE Clash of Champions Coverage: Reigns Wins US Title, Rollins Screwed Jax won with the Samoan Drop, but Fox gave her a run, especially in the beginning.

Kick-off:

Mia Jax vs. Alicia Fox: Jax won with the Samoan Drop, but Fox gave her a run, especially in the beginning.

Matches:

RAW Tag Team Champions: The New Day: Kofi Kingston and Big E. Langston w/Xavier Woods vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: This was a war as Kingston escaped the Magic Killer, while Gallows and Anderson made sure they continued to stay in the match, even after being nailed by the Big Ending. Ironically, it was thanks to Woods, who used his Trombone on Anderson, who was then nailed by the Midnight Hour nomination to give The New Day the win.

Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick: “The Wizard of Oz” can work as a heel. He was all over Perkins’ neck the entire match, looking to latch on The Captain’s Hook. From Straight Jacket submissions to strikes galore, Kendrick had a gameplay. Every time Perkins fought back and sold, he began to prove himself to a WWE Universe that is still growing accustomed to what he does in the ring. Although he missed a Neckbreaker, botching it badly, Perkins hit a beautiful inverted Tiger Driver Gutbuster to stay in the match. The action then spilled to the top rope and it was here Perkins hit a Hurricanrana to send both competitors to the outside. After Kendrick missed the Sliced Bread, Perkins missed a 450 and Kendrick tried to latch on The Captain’s Hook, but Perkins countered with the Knee Bar. After Kendrick escaped, he hit the Sliced Bread, but Perkins kicked out. Kendrick then got The Captains Hook on again, but Perkins escaped and hit the Fireman’s Carry Pele Kick and won with the Knee Bar.

Best-Of-Seven: Match Seven: Cesaro vs. Sheamus: These guys beat the crap out of each other throughout the match, but the refs stopped the match, claiming that neither could continue. If anything, it just fuels another match between the two. Bottom line, these guys can work, but aren’t in a title picture- they need to keep fighting.

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho: Zayn did everything right in this match but win. Hitting a Code Breaker out of nowhere, Jericho got the much-needed win.

Triple Threat: Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair w/Dana Brooke: Charlotte got the win with the Yakuza Kick on Bayley is a fast-paced three-way that proves Flair is one of the most dominant female performers in WWE history.

United States Champion Rusev w/Lana vs. Roman Reigns: Lots of feeling out in the beginning of the match as the two monsters traded strikes and signature maneuvers. Lana was the X-Factor here, pulling out the referee when Reigns nailed Rusev with the Spear. Once the referee threw Lana out of the match, Reigns went back on the offensive. Although Rusev latched on The Accolade, Reigns powered out and then nailed The Spear again for the win.

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins: A ton of offense and a bevy of pace changes as Owens preferred to work slow and stiff, while Rollins was quick on his feet. Regardless, Owens dominated and pushed the pace hard on several occasions as well, proving his indie pedigree. After a second rope Gutbuster and a Bullfrog Splash, Owens couldn’t put Rollins away, who, by this time in the match, was nursing his back, ribs and knee. But after he missed a Senton through the announce table Owens was in a bad way as well. Rollins then hit his Flying Knee and a Frog Splash of his own for a near-fall. Although Chris Jericho got involved and Owens hit an Implant Bomb, Owens couldn’t win. After Rollins hit the Pedigree, Jericho put Owens’ leg on the ropes. After Rollins chased Jericho around the ring, the referee got caught in the middle and was knocked down. Rollins then hit the Pedigree, but the ref was still down. Jericho then beat on Rollins, but Rollins then too out both Jericho and Owens with two Suicide Dives. With the referee still down, another ref hit the ring after a Pop-Up Powerbomb which gave Owens the victory.
