Review Fix Exclusive: Corrington Wheeler Talks ‘Traveling East’

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter who discusses the inspiration and creative process behind his upcoming album, “Traveling East.”

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

Corrington Wheeler: I originally created the first album “Traveling East” by myself with producers Justin Kyle of Jamie’s Elsewhere and Eric Ferraro of Asmara. After I finished my contract as a Meteorologist in the United States Air Force in January of 2016, I then began looking for talented musicians to perform my music. 8 months into my search, I had finally recruited a team and we began performing immediately, our first few shows with Alien Ant Farm, Lacey Sturm, and Bobaflex.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Wheeler: After the Audio Engineers and producers send over the instrumentals, I’ll then get into character for each song I write, much like method acting. I’ll only listen to 3 bands for the entire duration that I am writing vocals, so I can be influenced by their styles and on the day of recording, I won’t listen to anything at all. If I accidentally hear the radio, I’ll postpone recording until the next day so my creative writing isn’t contaminated by outside influences. Luckily I have a home studio, so I can spend countless hours recording and trying new things. After I come up with a hand full of vocal melodies, I’ll shoot them to the producer and see if they kickback any alternative ideas, then I’ll record.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song on the new album?

Wheeler: The new album that we will be releasing in January of 2017 is called “Seeking Light”. There will be 6 accompanying music videos, including guest features from Garret Rapp of The Color Morale, Jeremy of Sycamour, Ryan Tyler of Viridian, Sebastian Elizondo of Darkness Divided, & Rory Rodruguez of Dayseeker. Personally, I think the standout song of the album will be “Your Erroneous Evil” featuring Rory of Dayseeker. The music video will be amazing with exotic/supercars, the full band, special effects, and high quality footage/editing.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2017?

Wheeler: To really have a successful album drop, increase our fan-base in the local Texas area, and possible begin touring.

Review Fix: What makes Traveling East a special album?

Wheeler: I’d say that both the first and second albums are special to me because they show a progression of personal growth and intellectual expansion. “Traveling East” is related to freemasonry. It was at the time that I had come to realize I needed to Travel East, to search for knowledge, to seek the light. Our unreleased album “Seeking Light” contains songs that describe each of the lessons I learned while traveling the world, while I was seeking the light. Our music is available on our website for free download, as well as philosophical explanations of songs, surrealism artwork, and music videos.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Wheeler: My goal is to present abstract thoughts, philosophy, esoteric works, sociology, and moral lessons through the music, surrealism artwork, and interesting reading material. We’re flashy with exotic cars, luxury, a million lifestyle, and worldly travels because I want to become the catalyst in people’s lives and show them what they can achieve, to spark a fire.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Wheeler: I’ve already started brainstorming ideas for the third album and we’re likely going to lyrically write about ancient philosophers and events to show people the birth and progression of logic through human history.

  1. gotta be honest this dude sounds like a grade-A tryhard douche. He talks about his production quality, namedrops other artists, and brags about having supercars in a music video, but I get no sense of artistry or real purpose behind his music. Pretty obvious he cares more about “making it” than making good music
