Review Fix Exclusive: Destinova Frontman Tim Meiswinkel Talks ‘Nameless Goat’

Review Fix chats with Destinova ’s vocalist and Tim Meiswinkel who discusses the band’s new album, “Nameless Goat,” which was just released on Nov. 11. Breaking down the creative process and goals behind the production, Meiswinkel lets us know what to expect.

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

Tim Meiswinkel: We started the band when we were 16 years old. We have been three members: Myself on guitar and vocals, Thomas Henn on bass guitar and Alessandro Serafino on drums. We all went to the same youth centre and got together real quick to form a band. Well, I knew Alessandro since kindergarten and got to know Thomas in this centre. We just covered some Red Hot Chili Peppers songs and haven’t even been very good at it. But after about 2 month we started to write our own songs and did play live a bit. After some years we wanted a second guitar player so Stevo got into the band, who wanted to be our merchguy at first. And so the band got formed.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like for this album?

Meiswinkel: Thomas and Stevo are the ones writing most of the instrumental parts of the songs each on their own. For example: Stevo wrote the song ‘Generation Zero’, while Thomas wrote ‘Wake Up’. I (Tim) wrote the lyrics for all of the songs except ‘Dog’. Stevo wrote them on that song. Many of the songs on the album existed long before we recorded them, but we changed them from time to time so they suited us more and more. We recorded demos of those song in my living room so we could work on details. After that we went into the Liquid Aether Studios to record them professionally.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song on the album? How was it written?

Meiswinkel: I think all of the songs have their vibe to it, so I don’t feel that any song is a standout song really. But our first single will be ‘Generation Zero’, because it a very diverse song in itself. It has soft and hard vocals as well as hard rock parts and some grungy parts in it. Stevo had the idea what the lyrics should be about, so he asked me if I could write them down and I thought this idea would fit perfectly to the instrumental arrangement. I don’t really want to reveal what this song is about, so anyone can make out the meaning on his own.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2017?

Meiswinkel: We want to do much more gigs. We really want to reach the 100 gigs in a year mark. And we want to tour through Great Britain about every 3 month, because we really like the music scene there in comparison to the almost dead rock music scene in Germany.

Review Fix: What makes this album special?

Meiswinkel: It is special, because there are no filler songs in it. Every song has a right to be on this record, but still they fit together really well. In addition it is our first Album under the name of ‘Destinova,’ so we put all our compassion in it, that the listeners can feel what we felt, while recording it.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Meiswinkel: We want people to see us as we are. We don’t disguise ourselves and put all our energy into our performance, but don’t take ourselves to seriously.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Meiswinkel: Touring, planning new records and some new live sessions. We want to make a music video or two anytime soon.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Meiswinkel: Go to concerts more often. We are touring Great Britain in December, so it would be awesome to see anyone of you guys there.
