Review Fix Exclusive: Lola de Hanna Talks New Music And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Lola de Hanna, who discusses her upcoming EP. For those who caught her last EP, “After The Other Side,” you know you’re definitely in for a musical treat.

Review Fix: How was this new EP born?

Lola de Hanna: After The Other Side was released I took a little break from recording and performing. I still collaborated with other artists, but I wasn’t sure where to go next with my own music. In the meantime, I listened to a lot of other artists, both old and new, famous and not well-known, and I tried to expand my creativity. At some point, I felt ready to write. As if thoughts and feelings had been building up.

Review Fix: How is this different from the other music you’ve been involved in?

de Hanna: It feels more real and emotionally authentic. Not that other music I’ve been involved in hasn’t been, but in these songs I’m not thinking in terms of musical conventions or what’s expected lyrically. I’m letting the soul do that talking!

Review Fix: What’s the standout track on the upcoming EP? How was it written?

de Hanna: The upcoming EP has a song called “I’m right there with you.” It’s one of those songs that write themselves, meaning that once I arranged and composed the instrumental part, the melody and lyrics took a life of their own. The reason it stands out is because I get chills every time I hear it. That can happen with your own songs, right?

Review Fix: Bottom line-why must someone listen?

de Hanna: Because there are surprising elements to this EP and because I think people will feel something when they listen.

Review Fix: How do you want this EP to ultimately be remembered?

de Hanna: I want this EP to be enjoyable. Hopefully, it’ll be remembered as a raw and authentic expression of human experiences and conflicting emotions.

Review Fix: What’s next?

de Hanna: Nothing beats playing songs in front of an audience, so a mini series of shows to promote the EP will happen!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

de Hanna: I’m excited to get my new music out there. I’m working with new musicians and collaborators on this EP, so there’s definitely going to be a fresh feel.
