Review Fix Exclusive: Tarah Who Talks Goals And 2018

Review Fix chats with Tarah G. Carpenter (TGC) Vocals, Guitar, Matthew Peltcher (MP): Bass, Backing Vocals and Coralie Hervé (CH) Drums of Tarah Who, who discuss how the band got together, their creative process, new EP and goals for 2018.

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

TGC: I started this solo musical project in 2006. Over the years, I met producers and musicians that helped me out, in making it fuller and after looking for musicians to record with, decided to make this project a band project. I have met Matt in July 2016, Coralie June 2017 and Dave joined us in November 2017.

It’s going really well. We all get along and there’s a true harmony and friendship between all of us. Each with our own personalities and taste in things in life. Those guys make all of this possible and make this adventure as fun as one can imagine.

MP: I was looking for a punk band to play shows in Los Angeles. After a few tries, I found Tarah Who? through an ad and, after checking them out online, was really intrigued by the band and what they were all about.  I thought to myself “these are the kind of songs I want to play live…this is something I really want to be part of.”

CH: I joined Tarah Who? at the end of June 2017.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

TGC: I write songs, on the road, at home, driving.. pretty much anywhere inspiration strikes me.
When I write, I have the full song in my head with all of the instruments and intentions. you ‘ll hear me say a lot that I hear things.. well. I’m not crazy. Just in composition! I hear musical things.

I make demos of what I hear and send the tracks to Matt and Coralie who will spend some time alone with those new tracks. Then we will meet and start playing them. I tell them about the song so that they can feel the emotions when they play of where they should be or how to write or change their part.

Our songs are strong on emotions, if you don’t play them with the right intention it won’t sound good.

The last two EPs Jason Orme (Alanis Morissette) joined in a co-production. Jason “heard” more things:) When it was appropriate, we made the changes. If it was changing the emotion or the intention of the song, we kept it as it was. Very simple, fun, exciting ways to see your songs born and grow until its release.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

TGC: I’d say, the one that we are currently working on called “Numb Killer.” I wrote it in my friend’s car. I think we were going to Ventura, to paddleboard. I was in the back seat and I got lost in my thoughts. We had just heard about the London attacks at the Ariana Grande’s show. The lyrics are pretty clear… I am truly wondering what goes into people’s mind to be able to come through with those acts. I was secretly crying in the back seat while writing this song! I don’t think anyone noticed.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2018?

TGC: More music, more shows. I want this EP to be better than the last, and I have a good feeling that it will:! I want us to play more festivals and tour more. I really want to play the east coast next year and see how people like us there.

We have a couple music videos coming out as well, that we are excited about.

2017 was amazing for Tarah Who? I want 2018 to be the same but bigger and better. 2017 was great to get everything settled and ready for takeoff! Now we are ready! Take us places! I think for the first time as well, we are going to shoot for a radio airplay.

Tarah Who?’s music, we recognize, is not particularly radio friendly… For once, we thoughts, let’s see if “Numb Killer” can change our musical status.

MP:  A lot of music, shows, tours, videos and other surprises!  2018 is going to be crazy.  We are working hard to get Tarah Who?’s raw and ferocious sound into your eardrums.

CH: We are working on an EP that we are gonna record soon. We’ll do a west coast tour to promote it in April, and in Europe in the summer.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

TGC: Two ways: I want to inspire people in being who they truly are, to their core. telling everyone that it is OK to be who you are and feel the way that you feel. I want to people to find joy and/or comfort in our songs as I did while listening to other artists or bands when growing up.

The second way is entertaining our fans. When they come to our shows, all I care about is seeing our fans with big smiles on their faces and singing or screaming their hearts out! mosh pitting, or dancing, whatever it is that you do while listening, as long as you let yourself go and enjoy the present moment- with us.

MP:  Either get you dancing at our shows or grooving along to our songs, we just want everyone to enjoy, relate, etc. to TW?’s music.  We have so much fun at our shows…the people who come out are great and we just want to keep it going! Thank you all for your support.

Review Fix: What’s next?

TGC: Our career truly depends on our listeners.. so YOU tell us, people. What IS next?

We have planned to go West for a US west coast tour with our friends Dry Can. Summer 2018 we will be in Europe for more shows, and September 2018 we plan on going to the East Coast. those are our plans… but we are VERY flexible.

MP: Great and wonderful things is all I can imagine.  Very excited about touring and seeing some of you.

CH: A lot of new experiences, fun and music of course.
