Review Fix Exclusive: Urbano Talks ‘Standing Ovation’ And More

Review Fix chats with Marisa and John Urbano, who discuss their signature sound and their new single, “Standing Ovation.”

About Urbano:

After meeting talented producer AJ DeMarco at Miami Music Week’s Winter Conference, “Standing Ovation” came to fruition quite serendipitously. The track caught the eye of legendary hip hop label, Tommy Boy Records and was signed to release this summer! “Standing Ovation” has a worldly sound, influenced by Hindustani arrangement using sitar qualities, but enough bass to have everyone dancing all summer.

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

John Urbano: Marisa – 1/2 of our band URBANO – really loved music and as the older sister blasted hip-hop at all hours of the day. Me- the other 1/2 to our band URBANO – followed in her footsteps and we started listening to the same music. Listening to music together brought us closer and showed us the true value of artistry. It gave us a lot of passion to create our own songs. At the age of 16 I started recording music professionally in a studio, and thereafter Marisa decided to follow in his footsteps! Once we both heard what we created, we were addicted and loved how it made us feel.

Review Fix: How was “Standing Ovation?” written?

Marisa Urbano: Believe it or not, it all began after meeting talented producer yuungnuudle (aka AJ DeMarco) at Miami Music Week’s Winter Conference in 2017! “Standing Ovation” came to fruition quite serendipitously when I sent him vocal stems of a hook that John and I created. John then wrote the verses and as they say – the rest was history.

Review Fix: What makes your brand of music special?

Marisa: Growing up together, we really know each other and have a special bond as brother and sister. We have taken that collaborative nature and have made something that represents not only our identity as individuals, but as a family. Music is so important in our lives and that was the driving force behind both of us pursuing a career in music. So our brand really highlights who we are and we think that is pretty special!

Review Fix: Why do you think people should enjoy it?

John: The music culture is all about what feels good to you, what makes your heart sing, and your soul happy. We want to spread all the love, and good vibes to others as we feel this is our purpose in life. We think others will sense or feel that authenticity and really relate to that vibe. We want to make people happy and a good amount of our songs are very upbeat and lively. Dancing is one of Marisa’s all-time favorite activities, so we want to get people moving and infuse our music with those elements in mind. We think people will enjoy this positive quality in our music.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

John: We want to affect others in the way that our favorite music has affected us! We want to get our listeners through a bad day, let them know we will always be here for them, and just simply make them happy! We just want to spread some good vibes and hopefully uplift others with our music.

Review Fix: What makes this track different from your previous work?

Marisa: Well we worked directly with a very talented producer (yuungnuudle) on this one and it was more of a collaborative effort. Our previous work, we had just searched around and found some amazingly produced instrumentals. Although, for this track – start to finish was a more polished, cohesive and synergetic creation of ideas. Tailor made is a great word for this collaboration, which was certainly different from the rest.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2018?

John: Our goals are to be on the Billboard charts again and also create some sort of mini-tour!

Review Fix: How difficult is it to be in a band with your sibling?

Marisa: It’s actually not that difficult! Although, we do think it really depends on the relationship that duos and groups have with one another that really either makes it easier or harder as for as the dynamics of working together. The fact that we are so close with one another, even before making music, helps tremendously. Also, we know and understand one another so we work pretty cohesively after years of making music! Really we are ride or die for each other so it’s only been a great support for each of us having one another.

Review Fix: What’s next?

John: It is really amazing how many possibilities there are when you keep an open mind, meet new people and just enjoy the journey! We have gone to several different networking events and met some really talented people. With that being said, the next moves are releasing new material collaborating with others! We have several tracks just waiting in the chamber!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Marisa: Just want to thank everyone who has been supporting us from day one! We really appreciate you! If you want to follow us on social media – our IG is @urbanomusicgroup and our twitter is @urbanomusicgro1 ! We are so grateful to each and every single person!
