Supergirl Film in Development

Supergirl will join her cousin Superman, as well as other DC superheroes such as Batman and Wonder Woman in theaters, with her first film (since 1984).

Warner Bros, along with DC, are in the development of a feature film based on Supergirl, with writer Oren Uziel on the script, although no actress, director, producer or date is confirmed, as reported by Hollywood Deadline.

Uziel’s previous works include “Mortal Kombat,” “The Cloverfield Paradox,” and directed and wrote the Netflix original film, “Shimmer Lake.” He is also a writer on the upcoming film, “Sonic the Hedgehog.”

With the success of “Wonder Woman” in 2017 and DC/Warner Bros’ future releases of “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Birds of Prey,” and Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” and the solo “Back Widow” film. It was inevitable for Supergirl to have her own film in the new era of heroine protagonist line-up.

Supergirl’s first appearance in theaters was 1984’s “Supergirl,” a spinoff of the original Superman tetralogy film series, which was directed by Jeannot Szwarc and starred Helen Slater as the titular character. Currently, Supergirl has her own self-titled television series in the CW and features Melissa Benoist as Supergirl. The show’s fourth season is set to premiere in Fall 2018.
