Review Fix Exclusive: Timmy Milner’s Talks ‘Fall Risk’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter and guitarist Timmy Milner, who breaks down the goals and creative process behind his debut album, “Fall Risk.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Timmy Milner: I started playing guitar at age nine because I thought guitarists were cool and I really liked the worship band guitarist at the church I went to. My mom got me an electric guitar from Costco. Wrote my first song at eleven and got into more and more styles until I found myself going to a conservatory for music composition. I’ve been in a few different small projects but this is my studio debut.

Review Fix: What makes “Part of Your Sunshine” special to you?

Milner: It’s about yearning to be closer to the God who I’ve experienced in a very tangible way many times, but feeling weary and kind of thrown about by people and myself. The line about vomit refers to a proverb about fools returning to their folly, it’s that thing of wanting to be closer to this spiritual reality you know is there, but constantly losing sight of it or just being turned off by the church at large.

Review Fix: How do you want this song to affect people?

Milner: I want people to feel hope, knowing that they can be honest with their pain but they would see the sunshine, or beauty, of life.

Review Fix: What did you learn about yourself through the creation process?

Milner: I learned a lesson that I’ve learned many times, as soon as I try to accomplish things all on my own or shut people out and make my goal all about me I get super exhausted and become first terrible to myself and then to others. When I let go a bit and invite people in, the outcome is way better and so much more fun. The journey rivals the value of the end product.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of the year?

Milner: I’ll be recording some new songs I’ve been working on in September and we are also planning an official release show. The goal is to create more and share more.
Review Fix: What’s next?

Milner: There’s a second album in the works but it’ll be a while, they take time. I’m also planning a couple tours, one in Scandanavia (Ludwig Näsvall, drumer on the album, lives in Sweden) and a west coast tour…maybe more:)

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Milner: Thank you so much for taking the time to involve me in what you are doing! We spent a lot of time, blood, sweat, and tears making this record so we could share some music with the world, I hope it finds some new ears.
