Review Fix Exclusive: Jonny Parks Talks ’Tsunami’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Jonny Parks, who discusses his new single, Tsunami and more, breaking down its creative process and impact it’ll have on his career.

About Jonny Parks:

Born in Westchester, NY, singer-songwriter/guitarist Jonny Parks is an artist of mixed genres. Having shown an interest in music at the early age of 8 by owning a keyboard and a harmonica, Jonny Parks has become a multi-instrumentalist who works on mastering his craft and broadening his musical horizons.

Starting classical guitar at 16 and singing by 19, Parks incorporates sounds of Soul, Jazz, R&B and Blues into his repertoire of sound. With the release of three EPs (Room 327, DrugFall, Sidekick Stories) one album (The Portia LP), and his second LP being released over the span of 2018, Jonny Parks is steadily gaining popularity throughout NYC with performances in venues such as: Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, Desmond’s Tavern, Pianos, Amateur Night at the Apollo and more.

Review Fix: How did this track come to be?

Jonny Parks: It came about when I thought to myself, “I have no real song/anthem for the lovers to put them into a sexy baby-making mood.” I thought heavily of the Goddess Sade when I wrote the song. Her music is so silky and sensual and I tried to emulate that and put my own contemporary style to it.

Review Fix: What makes it extra special to you?

Parks: The fact that all musicians involved in this track really helped to make this song crisp and come to life. Tom Bitondo on keys, Marshall Toppo on bass, Billy Flynn on drums, and Rich Fabrizio on the board all had amazing ideas for the song. I’d say it’s my favorite of the tracks that I’ve released this year so far.

Review Fix: How does your background in Literature make you a better song-writer?

Parks: I’m able to use different language than most other artists. For this song in particular, I challenged myself to not use such vulgar language when I’m obviously talking about sex. I’m also able to come up with more creative stories too. The majority of my songwriting is based upon storytelling, whether it be fiction or nonfiction. I truly believe that’s a gift that not many other artists actually have.

Review Fix: How would you like people to be affected by it?

Parks: As I’ve said before, I really want this song to put people into a sexy/loving mood. That was my goal when I first thought of the chorus. “Tsunami, send floods down through your back and to your knees… Just like I used to.”

Review Fix: What are your goals for it?

Parks: I want this song to be heard by anyone that’s a fan of music, sound and production. I want people to recognize that my team and I are a force to be reckoned with when it comes down to music, creativity and production.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Parks: For the remainder of the year into next year I’ll be working on new music and will be releasing new music videos for each song just as I have this past year. The ideas my team and I have are endless and we are coming full force with every single release.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Parks: I’d like to thank my brother Steve Ferri aka Dos Stackos. He’s essentially the art director and has been directing every single video this year. Without him, none of this would be possible. I’d also like to thank anyone who has been listening and staying tuned in. To any new listeners and viewers, thank you for coming along and I hope you enjoy.
