Review Fix Exclusive: Hamish Anderson Talks Inspiration and Goals

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Hamish Anderson to find out what powers his creative process and what his goals are for 2019.

Review Fix: How did your project start?

Hamish Anderson: I released my first EP in 2013 and have been writing and recording since. My debut album “Trouble” released in 2016.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Anderson: My parents are huge music lovers and my dads vinyl collection is what started my love of the blues and rock and roll. I started writing songs in my late teens and decided I wanted to be a singer/songwriter and guitarist.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Anderson: It’s always changing. Songwriting is really interesting to me because it’s always different, sometimes it starts with a melody, other times with a chord progression and sometimes just with a title. There’s no set formula and that’s what keeps it exciting!

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Anderson: Lots of different things inspire me. Relationships, friendships, human behavior and why we do certain things. I always write when I’m going through something and it helps me process and understand what it is I’m going through.

Review Fix: What makes this album special?

Anderson: I think for me it shows a real growth in myself as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. I feel more confident in all those departments and I think you can hear that. I wanted to make a very song-oriented album and I think I’m starting to find a sound that is unique to me in my writing style and the genres I’m trying to combine.

Review Fix: What’s the standout track?

Anderson: It’s hard to pick a standout of your own songs. It changes a lot but at the moment I’m really proud of a track called “What You Do To Me”. It’s me exploring the more soul-oriented side of my music. It probably will be the next single in the new year to kick off my album launching in 2019.

Review Fix: What’s on your musical bucket list?

Anderson: Play even more festivals, sell out an iconic venue like Madison Square Garden and open for The Rolling Stones!
