Review Fix Exclusive: Paul Abrahamian Talks Van Alden EP And More

Review Fix chats with Van Alden’s Paul Abrahamian, who discusses the inspiration for the project and more.

About Paul Abrahamian:

Abrahamian garnered the public’s eye with his appearance on two seasons of CBS’s hit series, Big Brother. The new record serves as a juxtaposition of the perceived idea of Abrahamian as a “reality star” to his identity as a music artist, allowing established and new fans to see another side of his personality, artistry and energy that translate into an undeniable live show. Tracks like “Otherside,” “Boheme,” and “Never Die” are cinematic, living in their own all-encompassing world into which listeners are instantly pulled. Those who only know Abrahamian from his time on reality television, will be pleasantly surprised by the artistry displayed by Van Alden.

Review Fix: What is pop noir?

Paul Abrahamian: The best way I would describe it is – dark/moody/atmospheric pop music.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Abrahamian: I’ve been playing music since I was a kid. I started with the violin at 8, then ditched it for a guitar at 11. As soon as I got some better gear, I started to play in garage bands.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Abrahamian: It’s really all over the place to be honest. Sometimes a melody will randomly pop into my head, & if my guitar isn’t around, I hum it into my phone LOL. Or, the guys & I will all get together, have a little cookout, & start jamming until we can feel something out. I try to write music in a very happy / laid back environment.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Abrahamian: Life, human interaction. emotions, freedom, & stories.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Abrahamian: Sultry/moody electronic music with elements ranging from folk to pop.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Abrahamian: The live shows add more of a raw/untamed element to the songs. It definitely packs an interesting punch.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2018?

Abrahamian: We’re going on a mini tour at the end of November that we’re mega excited about. After we finish with our LA show on December 7th, we plan on releasing some more music & announcing some more exciting shows.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Abrahamian: Really just experimenting with new music & putting content out there. As long as we have fans who want more music, we’ll keep pumping it out. Creating/playing music for Van Alden really doubles as a get away for everybody that’s involved.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Abrahamian: We’re genuinely really excited to see everyone enjoy the music & we’ve been putting countless hours into preparing an intimate show for our first tour. We appreciate all the love.
