About the Production:

Planet Connections Theater Festivity in partnership with The Theater at the 14th Street Y present a powerful new play written by Glory Kadigan and directed by Broadway veteran, Tonya Pinkins:

A granddaughter bonds with her grandfather as she helps him confront the regrets of his youth in Glory Kadigan‘s riveting play featuring David L. Review Fix: What was the inspiration for this project?

Glory Kadigan: I was interested in writing a play about World War Two but from a perspective that is usually not highlighted.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Kadigan: Well for me, I wrote most of my plays at La Mama Umbria.  I train as a writer with Erik Ehn out there – and he is excellent at helping writers generate new material. So after some time of doing various writing exercises and freeing the mind up, the play suddenly comes. The first draft is fast. I can just be writing straight for 2-3 days. And then, about a month later, when I’m back in New York, the rewrites begin. After we have a closed reading of the script, and I can hear the play aloud, I continue doing rewrites.

Review Fix: What are your ultimate goals for this production or your company for the future?

Kadigan: To continue to present entertaining plays which discuss social justice issues.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Kadigan: I’m directing a play at La Mama in the Spring entitled The Floor Is Lava, written by Alex Riad.
