Review Fix Exclusive: Inside ‘Azusa RP Online’

Review Fix chats with ‘Azusa RP Online’ developer Victor Luis Badaró dos Santos, who discusses the creative process behind the nifty open world adventure, which also happens to be his first released game.

Review Fix: How was this game born?

Victor Luis Badaró dos Santos: Azusa was born from a lot of dreams, and mainly the desire to have a roleplaying experience in a universe similar to Saint Seiya.

Review Fix: What was development like?

dos Santos: As I worked in Azusa, the game was constantly tested since the early years of the project, and these experiences was crucial to find the better way to bring the roleplaying rules to an eletronic game mechanics.

Review Fix: What makes this game special?

dos Santos: Azusa’s mechanics to make the roleplaying truly immersive is its strongest point, letting the players have always new and dramatic experiences while being part of the lives of their characters.

Review Fix: What games influenced this one the most?

dos Santos: I was always inspired by classic roleplaying games like Finale and Generations, however always believed that more mechanics to aid the roleplaying side of those games could help a lot the experience.

Review Fix: Any fun stories or wild moments during development?

dos Santos: One year in the development, I forgot to backup the files for 6 months, and an accident broke my computer and that’s how I learned to backup the files every week.

Review Fix: Do you think preserving older gameplay mechanics in new games is important?

dos Santos: Yes! But it’s equally important to try to innovate and be audacious with new designs

Review Fix: What’s your favorite memory as a gamer?

dos Santos: Is it weird to say “roleplaying in Azusa tests”? So many incredible characters developed and experiences that I will never forget.

Review Fix: Who will enjoy this game the most?

dos Santos: Everyone who enjoys RPing in forums and tabletop RPGs, and mainly those who enjoy the classic anime Saint Seiya will understand all the references and inspirations of Azusa.

Review Fix: Bottom Line, why must someone play this game?

dos Santos: To feel the experience of something new in a nostalgic environment.

Review Fix: How do you want this game to be remembered?

dos Santos: I want the players to, like me, always remember the story of their favourite characters, how they grow up and how they died, these stories are the soul of Azusa.

Review Fix: What’s next?

dos Santos: If Azusa goes well, I want to continue developing more MMORDGames, maybe a 2.5D version of Azusa? or a monster capturing MMORDG? I have many projects in mind, but everything will depend on how well Azusa will be received.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

dos Santos: First I would like to thank you for this interview, and since Azusa is my first released game, I can’t hide my anxiety! so I guess its “See you all ingame at day 30!”
