Review Fix Exclusive: Kat Holland Talks ‘Retrovision’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Kat Holland, who discusses her origin in music and creative process behind her new work, “Retrovision.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Kat Holland: I have been involved in music my whole life. I have a very music oriented family, so I grew up playing piano, guitar, and singing all the time. Throughout my life I have been in different choirs and solo performances, and in college is when I decided to really start pursuing it as a career.

Review Fix: What performers inspire you the most?

Holland: A lot of performers inspire me, but I would say some of my biggest inspirations are Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, and Adele. I also really enjoy the performances of Camilla Cabello and Dua Lipa.

Review Fix: What’s on your musical bucket list?

Holland: So many things! For the short term, I would really like to perform at Rockwood Music Hall in New York and Hotel Café in Los Angeles.

Review Fix: Goals for 2019?

Holland: One of my biggest goals is to have the recording of my album completed by the end of 2019.

Review Fix: What makes your music scene special?

Holland: I think the most special part about my music scene is the intimacy of it. When I perform my originals, there is almost a familiarity, like the crowd can relate to what I am saying and feeling in my music.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Holland: I would describe my music as Jazz/Pop. A mixture of Adele, Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, and Maroon 5.

Review Fix: Bottom line, what makes you special?

Holland: This is a tough question, but I like to tell people that the real reason I create music is because it is what I love to do. It’s not for the fame and fortune. Sure, it would be great to earn accolades for my work, but at the end of the day this is my passion and that is why I do it.

Review Fix: What next?

Holland: The plan is the record my first album by the end of 2019!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Holland: I am so grateful to be where I am now and so thankful for all of my fans, friends, and family that have supported my along the way. I am so excited to see what comes next for me as an artist, and I can’t wait to share more of my journey with everyone. I feel very lucky to be doing something that I am so passionate about.
