Review Fix Exclusive: Sheridan Reed Talks ‘Twisted Up’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Sheridan Reed, who discusses his creative process, origin in music and latest effort, “Twisted Up.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Sheridan Reed: I started out a pretty early age, I think 9 or 10, playing clarinet and classical music. My mom always sang to me growing up, and my dad played some guitar. My family was definitely one to value and encourage artistic outlets and creativity.

Review Fix: What performers inspire you the most?

Reed: Anderson Paak inspires me in how much he innovates with everything that he does. D’Angelo has also been one to push the boundaries but stay true to himself at the same time. Lyrically, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie has always hit a spot with me.

Review Fix: What’s on your musical bucket list?

Reed: Sell out Red Rocks Amphitheater and tour Europe. Have an album produced by Dr. Dre. Play a show with Justin Timberlake. Playing the festival circuit also seems like it’d be an incredible life experience I’d love to have done. Haha I’ve definitely got my work cut out for me.

Review Fix: Goals for 2019?

Reed: I’m planning on releasing somewhere between 8 and 15 new tracks, in the form of singles and EP’s. I’m trying to get more music out there but do it strategically. Along with that I’m looking to play some great local Austin venues like Antones and Stubbs.

Review Fix: What makes your music scene special?

Reed: People out here in Austin make live music central to their social scene. It’s like nothing I’ve seen anywhere else. Not to say it doesn’t have its flaws, but it definitely has a community that cares. Austin even has non profits for musicians health and wellness as well as legal consolation.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Reed: I typically describe it as chill-r&b-soul-pop haha it’s a mouthful but it’s always a hard question to answer.

Review Fix: Bottom line, what makes you special?

Reed: I don’t like to think of myself as special, I think that can lead to an over inflated ego and a big head, and I’m just trying to stay humble. I think I write music that people can connect with and feel in the groove, and my lyrics and songs always come with a specific experience in mind, and I think it shows.

Review Fix: What next?

Reed: Getting ready for an EP release hopefully next month, a new music video out for my latest single premiering on 3/26, and starting to book out through the summer and beyond for live performances!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Reed: I’m just amazed that I get to make music that I care about, and deeply touched that other people care about it and can relate to it too.
