Review Fix Exclusive: Sydney Cope Talks ‘Watch Out For Me’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Sydney Cope, who discusses her origin in music, influences, goals and new single, “ Watch Out For Me.”

About Sydney Cope:

The Dallas, Texas native has been working on her unique, genre-bending sound since she first started performing at 8 years old. Over the years, she focused on developing herself as an artist, mastering the guitar, piano, and studying vocals and songwriting. Inspired by artists like Justin Timberlake and Ariana Grande, Cope’s music has found a sound that stands at the intersection of radio-ready pop melodies, deeply introspective songwriting, and soulful urban stylings.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Sydney Cope: I began singing at a small music academy close to my home in Denton, TX.  My first performance was a Christmas showcase where I sang “I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas”. From that show I realized that I loved performing for people on stage.

Review Fix: What performers inspire you the most?

Cope: When I was younger, Taylor Swift was a big inspiration to me, because I admired how she would perform and wrote her own music. She gave me the motivation to write with emotion and for the audience to connect with my story or stories where people can make a connection.

Review Fix: What makes the Dallas music scene unique?

Cope: Dallas has so much hidden talent. There are so many talented people located in the area, and many unique locations involving a diverse selection of music. I personally love the friendly energy and vibes of the Dallas market!

Review Fix: What’s on your musical bucket list?

Cope: To perform at the American Airlines center!

Review Fix: Goals for 2019?

Cope: My main goal this year is to continue writing new music, and create an album! I also want to learn how to whistle. lol.

Review Fix: What makes the new album special?

Cope: I chose to release Watch Out For Me as a single because I felt it was powerful enough to be heard on its own. All of my songs have a story behind them, and this was one story I was ready to share with others.

Review Fix: How was Watch Out For Me written?

Cope: I first started writing watch out for me with my guitar. I found a rhythm I liked, and pulled an emotion from an experience and created the lyrics. From there, I worked with Michael and Wendy Child to create the final product.

Review Fix: Away from WOFM, what’s your standout track? How was it written?

Cope: Watch Out For Me is my first single i’ve released since working on my sound and developing who I am as an artist. I have more exciting music I’ll be sharing soon, so keep eyes open!!

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Cope: It’s hard to describe my sound because all of my songs sound completely different. I personally don’t put my sound under one specific genre, because I enjoy so many different styles. Some say I have a mix of Hailee Steinfeld, Billie Eilish, and Halsey

Review Fix: Bottom line, what makes you special?

Cope: My biggest motive is to be happy and help make others happy. I love helping people, and will do anything to put a smile on their face.

Review Fix: What next?

Cope: I have more singles I will be releasing pretty soon, and have an album in the works!
