Review Fix Exclusive: Krantz’ Jeffrey Krantz Talks Misty Morning Dew And More

Review Fix chats with Krantz’ Jeffrey Krantz, who details the band’s origin, goals, creative process and new album, “Misty Morning Dew.”

About Krantz:

Nashville band KRANTZ is led by its namesake Jeffrey Krantz, formerly of the band The Effects who opened for acts such as Kings of Leon, Shinedown, Foreigner and The Toadies. On his latest endeavor, Jeffrey Krantz has teamed with Tee Tallent (keys) and Adrian Flores (percussion) all part of Nashville’s Broadway circuit. Together, KRANTZ brings a psychedelic, pop/rock sound and in-you-face attitude intertwining meaningful lyrics, and authentic, no-holds rock and roll. Their sophomore album Misty Morning Dewwill be released on September 27.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Jeffrey Krantz: I grew up with music all over the house. My father is a drummer so his bands would always be jamming in the garage or basement, and my mother was always very involved with the church choir, so there was always singing going on. I decided to pick up her old 70’s Yamaha acoustic guitar after I discovered the Beatles when I was 12. Started writing songs right away and have been doing it ever since…

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Krantz: I’d say I like to start with a vibe. I’ll feel a beat or hear a melody in my head, and pick up whatever instrument is nearest to me (usually a guitar) and feel it out. Occasionally I’ve started with lyric, but more often, I’ll start singing some words that I just feel with the melody and go from there.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Krantz: I get a lot of inspiration from other bands or artists. When some other piece of music hits me hard, it gets me pumped to write. There’s tons of other things as well though, like of course, women or just things in life that I love or hate at the time.

Review Fix: What makes Misty Morning Dew special?

Krantz: I really dig this tune because it doesn’t really sound like anything I’ve heard before. The verses have a droney psychedelic feel, and the chorus is just straight up pop rock. I also get proud when I write a song that I can’t think of any other song I know using the same progression, but is still catchy as hell.

Review Fix: What’s the standout track?

Krantz: From the new album? I’d have to say “Alone” is (which will be the second single fyi). It’s a very chill acoustic track, but has a really cool vibe and I think a lot of peeps will dig it.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Krantz: I usually put us in the alternative rock category, but if you would like comparisons, I’d say Weezer meets the Beatles.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Krantz: Well they’re definitely more raw. I’d say we def give off more of a rock n roll vibe with our live show because they’re pretty high energy.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2019?

Krantz: We’re going to release 3 more singles before the album, “Misty Morning Dew” is released in early fall. One of my dreams is to tour Europe, so that’s on the list too. We’ll keep playing here in the states though.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Krantz: World Tour!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Krantz: Just wanna say peace and love to everyone around the world, thanks to the peeps at Reviewfix for the Q&A, and let’s party to some new Krantz tunes.
