The 1990s in computer history was characterized by the creation of the internet. Computer Hope listed the fact that Tim Berners-Lee, working with Robert Cailliau at CERN, proposed a hypertext system that became the catalyst to the development of the internet. Just in time for Christmas day in 1990, Tim Berners-Lee successfully launched the first web server at info.cern.ch.

Docsity stated that as for the realm of gaming, another game-development technique became prominent during the early 1990s with the introduction of CD-ROMs and LaserDiscs, and this was called the full-motion video (FMV) games. Computers and similar gadgets improved rapidly by the 2000s. With that, the use of the 3-D graphics technology in games heightened and gave players a delightful gaming experience. The 3-D graphics technology started from a fixed and less hardware-intensive technique and can be generally characterized into categories, namely Fixed 3D, first-person view, and third-person view.

Games like The Sims (2000); Max Payne (2001); Warcraft 3 (2002); Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2003); Hitman: Blood Money (2006); Portal (2007); StarCraft II (2010); Minecraft (2011); Dota 2 (2013); Overwatch (2016); and Monster Hunter: World (2018) became favorites among players worldwide. These games exhibited the said changes in terms of game-developing techniques and player experience.
