Review Fix Exclusive: Kashmir Winter’s Edwin Raphael Talks Porcelain And More

Review Fix chats with Kashmir Winter’s Edwin Raphael, who lets us know all about his origin in music, creative process and the band’s goals for the rest of 2019.

About Kashmir Winter:

Kashmir Winter is a collaborative project between artists junï and Edwin Raphael. Hailing from Manchester and Dubai respectively, we are both now Montreal-based and have crafted a collection of guitar-driven songs that fall somewhere between our own unique sounds.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Edwin Raphael: I would say I kind of stumbled into it, music was a coping mechanism to escape everything in the outside world. It was a hobby that turned into my own little safe haven.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Edwin Raphael: For me a notion or feeling that resonates with me for a while transitions into me writing guitar lines. Guitar lines turn to melodies & the melodies in turn fit my initial notions & words that accompany it. It’s a cool little cycle.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Edwin Raphael: Melancholy indie.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Edwin Raphael: I like to keep live shows have a little more focus on instrumentation’s & add details within the songs that aren’t in the studio versions. Keeps it very fresh, not a big fan of going to a live show to hear the studio version playback.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Edwin Raphael: The naked-ness people feel without materialistic things & the insatiable doubtfulness it creates.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2019?

Edwin Raphael: Release a couple more songs & maybe an EP for the Kashmir Winter project.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Edwin Raphael: One of my favourite songs I’ve written called ‘Lie to Me’ is coming out in October.
