Review Fix Exclusive: Lesbian Bed Death’s Mr. Peach Talks ‘Born To Die On VHS’ And More

Review Fix chats with Lesbian Bed Death’s Mr. Peach, who discusses the band’s origin and goals for their new album, “Born To Die On VHS.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Mr. Peach: I first got into rock and metal music when I was about 12 or 13. I was a massive fan and became a total music geek. All I wanted to do was be in a band. I started learning to play guitar, put my first band together when I was about 17 and never looked back.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Mr. Peach: It varies depending who I’m working with at the time. Normally I write a few riffs, the other guitarist does the same, then we see what fits together. It’s a bit like heavy metal lego.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Mr. Peach: Lyrically, I’m mostly inspired by horror movies, especially ones from the 80’s where I feel the craziness and creativity was at a peak. Musically, I am always listening to new music and discovering new bands. Creativity inspires creativity, so I think it’s important for me to keep my finger on the pulse when it comes to what’s going on out there. I’ve even started my own blog cultofdanpeach.com which is a bit like a scrap-book of what I’m checking out at the time.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Mr. Peach: It’s an incredibly important part of my life. Mostly, music for me is about escapism. Your mind can go on an adventure, even when your body is driving to work.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Mr. Peach: Lesbian Bed Death is like Gothic Punk mixed with Hard Rock. It’s a bit like a female-fronted Alice Cooper, mixed with Ghost, Misfits, Kiss and The Cult. It’s over-the-top fun.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Mr. Peach: We tend to play the right notes in the studio. Seriously though, there’s an energy from playing live that is just pure magic.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Mr. Peach: Our latest single ‘Born To Die On VHS’ is the title track of the album, and is one of only three original songs, the rest being all covers of songs from horror films. I wanted a song that lyrically reflected the over-arching theme of annoying characters being despatched by characters like Freddy and Jason. We’re rooting for the bad guys! Musically, I wanted to write a fast, heavy punk song that was like a smack in the face.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

Mr. Peach: Like everyone else, we can’t put anything in stone due to Coronavirus. We have a couple of shows planned for the latter half of the year. Hopefully they’ll go ahead.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Mr. Peach: I’ve been busy writing, and as soon as we are able to, I want to get the band back in the studio to make album number seven. I’d also like to shoot a music video for the song ‘Flesh’ off the current record.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Mr. Peach: Our current album is a labour of love. I’ve always wanted us to cover versions of songs from my favourite horror films as they’ve been a huge part of my life and a massive influence on this band. I’ve uploaded the whole thing for everyone to enjoy on our YouTube channel, so please have a listen and say “Hi” in the comments section. https://youtu.be/E70jSiYUGr8
