Review Fix Exclusive: Mark Eden Talks Origin in Music and ‘Strong Enough’

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Mark Eden, who discusses his track, “Strong Enough,” as well as his origin in music and influences.

Review Fix: How did the project start?

Mark Eden: As it is my solo project I started playing music when I was 7, so I guess you could say it started way back then.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Eden: That’s a good question as it has many different faces at any given moment.

A lot of the time I will be just mucking’ around on the acoustic guitar and a certain chord progression will sound good (to my ears anyway). From there I usually will write the melody and text on the spot, if it takes more than 30 mins to form the original idea I will usually forget it. I like to work fast but having said that the recording process is another beast all together.

Other times it can start with a beat in my head or on a drum machine or a simple loop. Many things inspire me from friends, relationships, love, fear, philosophy, death, travel and the list goes on. So the creative process can stem from any of the above inspirations also.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Eden: That is hard to answer as for me I have many but that opinion may vary of course if you were to ask others.

‘Strong Enough’ from my second album is a standout for me as it asks the question ‘are you strong enough to be open?’ We may all have many strengths but to be open c an be one of the most challenging. The mix of chanting, percussion, the 12 string acoustic guitar together and the fact that it goes for 11 minutes all make it a standout track for me.

I wrote it many years ago in Australia while sitting on a rock contemplating my life and wondering what was next at that time.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?

Eden: My goal for 2020 are to continue releasing videos for songs from the new album ‘Things To Be’ plus I am working on a new solo album which will be released next year. It is a different direction from the one I have now, which is cool.

I am also working on videos for my band Under The Tongue, as we have a new album also, so it has been a busy year so far.

Gigs have been cancelled due to the virus and this year looks like it is a good year to be creative and prepare for next year.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Eden: I would like people to feel like they have endless possibilities when they listen to my music, I want them to feel great and explore life, their emotions and ask questions and most of all know that they are awesome.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Eden: I will continue to write and record music and also make videos for both of my projects. The other one is Under The Tongue an alternative rock band.

I love the process of making videos, it is another world where you can really explore your fantasies and creativity in another way. The visual aspect for my projects has always been an important part of the music for me. My band is releasing new music every 6 -7 weeks so it is an exciting time at the moment.

My new video for my solo project ‘Mystified’ will be out soon also, so there is much to do.
