Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. Her Fatal Hour and The Sending One- Shot Review: FUn

One of the best things about the “Hellboy” and the Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.” comics is that the one-shots tend to be great fun and even set up sequels or new stories. The latest one-shot is “Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. Her Fatal Hour and The Sending One- Shot,” written by Mike Mignola with artist Tiernen Trevallion and it ticks all of the boxes in these one-shots.

In “Her Fatal Hour” Hellboy is called back to Romania by the daughter of the old gypsy woman from “The Beast of Vargu” (using a puppet that looks like Hellboy) to help her fight off a demon that has disguised itself and asked to marry her.

The craziest thing about this comic is that Hellboy is asleep throughout the comic, making it seem like he was either summoned or he was dreaming. It doesn’t matter since the story itself is pretty fun. Hellboy fighting off a demon that wants to marry a mortal is a nifty idea.

“The Sending One” has Hellboy investigating a private library that was destroyed in the middle of the night. OF course, it was some kind of creature and, according to the niece of the library’s owner, it was looking for something. A bit short but to the point. It has a clever monster that not many people know about and the ending is also clever. It does, however, set up what appears to be a new story line.

The artwork in both comics is what you’d expect from modern “Hellboy.” If you’ve seen it before you’d now. The only downside is in “Her Fatal Hour” there’s a panel that doesn’t make it quite clear what Hellboy is doing to the demon. It looks like he’s throwing him but it looks awkward.

“Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. Her Fatal Hour and The Sending One- Shot” offer two stories with the first being the better of the two and the second seems to be a nice setup for a new story. The artwork is what fans expect except for one awkward panel.
