Review Fix Exclusive: Jacqueline Tucci Talks ‘Home’ And More

Review Fix chats with Jacqueline Tucci, who discusses her origin in music and new single, “Home.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Jacqueline Tucci: I was always into music as a kid and loved listening to a lot different genres and artists but when I was about 10 I went to see Green Day and Anti-Flag on Green Day’s American Idiot tour. I remember watching the bands and just thinking they were the coolest people in the world. I decided I wanted to play music like that too so I started playing guitar around the same time. The rest followed.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Tucci: I don’t really have a single go-to way of doing things. But I’d say what most often happens is I get an idea for lyrics from something I’m doing or have seen or have heard. I’ll usually write it in my phone in the moment until I can sit down and work out the music to go with it and write a song around it from there.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Tucci: Everything really. I take inspiration from my own life, the world, people, things I see or hear. Most things are fair game when I write.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Tucci: Music is everything. It’s something I engage with constantly. Writing and playing music for sure but also just listening to a ton of music. I’m always seeking out new music.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Tucci: I take influence from so many different things so it’s hard to describe every song in the same way. They’re all a little different. But I think a common element is how raw the sound is. I like to let parts flow naturally and do a lot of improvising. I think that energy comes through in the sound of all my music.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Tucci: I released my first single right when we went into lockdown for COVID-19. My band had been rehearsing for some time to play a release show but the show never happened and we haven’t been able to play since. I am so eager to play these songs live. I think the recorded songs capture my energy which I’m proud of but the live show will be even bigger. I can’t wait to play the songs for everyone and connect in a live-show setting.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Tucci: Home was written a few years ago at the beginning of a relationship where I wasn’t really sure if the other person and I were on the same page about what the relationship was or our feelings for each other. It’s about that uncertainty and the anxiety it can create, while trying to find the courage to be honest with yourself and embrace vulnerability.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

Tucci: This has been a unique and challenging year and it’s been difficult to make a lot of solid plans. I’d like to keep connecting with people through music as a goal. I think we all just have to keep doing our best, being good to ourselves and each other.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Tucci: Home was the final release from a set of songs I recorded together a while ago now. With its release, I feel like a chapter has closed in a way. I have a bunch of new songs that I’m eager to start recording and working on soon. I’m so excited to come back in the new year with a ton of new music.
