Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Tiffany Sayers: Music has been in my life as early as I can remember. My family and I always played music, sang, and danced together. In junior high, I began my writing journey by writing poems-I was obsessed. I still have a box of them somewhere! I dabbled with singing lessons in high school and performed at some community events, but it wasn’t until I graduated college that I dove into singing and songwriting. I spent a lot of time getting to know my voice, experimenting, and fine-tuning my craft by working with various talented writers and producers. I eventually formed a band of 7 and an acoustic act of 3 and started performing live at iconic Hollywood venues such as House of Blues, The Mint, The Viper Room, and more. Performing live regularly ignited even more passion within me, and I knew I was on the right path.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Sayers: I am a topline songwriter, so I write to an already created musical track or a track or riff a musician or producer creates live while I am in the room. I always pick a track or help influence a track that resonates with my musical style and mood at that time. It has to feel right. I have to catch a vibe to want to start writing lyrics and melody. Once I have that, melodies or lyrics start forming, or a subject or theme pops in my mind. I record my melody ideas over the track with whatever words I have written so far or come to mind and then go back and fill in all the lyrics later. Sometimes this process comes naturally and quickly, and other times it’s slower and requires more effort. You never really know what will happen, but that’s the beauty of it.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Sayers: Connection inspires me to sing and create. It can be either the connection I make with the song, with my collaborators, with my listeners or my live audience. When you give and receive simultaneously, it’s magical.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Sayers: Music makes me think deeper, discover myself, live in the moment, and experience life more completely. I turn to music to feed my emotions and to release them. It’s a lifelong bond I am grateful to have, and don’t know where I’d be without it.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Sayers: Sexy-pop with a ‘90s R&B vibe.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Sayers: I put a twist on things and re-create a little, whether that’s stripping down songs and making them more intimate or singing different adlibs. It keeps things fresh and exciting for me and the audience.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single, Trippin’ Over You?

Sayers: I co-wrote this song with producer and writer Daniel Luttrell. We hadn’t worked together in years, so we decided to book a studio and just see what happened. He started building the track, and I started singing some melodies, and we got on the topic of love. Not the serious kind, but the kind that makes you “love drunk” and a little crazy haha. We both pulled from past experiences and kept it sexy and fun!

Review Fix: What does this song mean to you?

Sayers: It’s an expression of that intoxicating feeling you get when you have intense chemistry with someone. You lose your head a bit, you’re trippin’, but it feels so good, so you just dive right into it. I’m not saying it’s the smartest thing to do, but hey, life is short, take chances! Check it out anywhere you stream music. It’s definitely a song you can groove to-I hope you dig it!

Review Fix: If anyone else could sing it better than you, who would you want to sing it?

Sayers: Hmm…Dua Lipa would sound nice on a dance-pop remix! She has such a smooth, rich tone.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

Sayers: I have some promising sync licensing opportunities this year, so I am working hard towards getting my music placed in film and television. Another goal I have for 2021 is new collaborations. I love co-writing and working with different musicians and producers. When you find a creator you gel with, your creativity thrives, and you should nurture those relationships. It’s also important to work with new people to challenge yourself, see things in a new way, learn from each other, and continue to grow. I also want to try creating music in a couple of different genres, definitely alternative R&B.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Sayers: More new music and virtual concerts! I am releasing another single on 3/11/21 titled “My Body Knows” and will be getting back into the studio around the same time. I’ve recently teamed up with a talented guitarist, Michael Kohl, and we are super excited to start rehearsing for virtual performances. We’ll be performing my new singles and some songs from my last EP, “12:22,” along with some covers.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Sayers: Just my motto- Be YOU, the rest will fall in place.
