Review Fix Exclusive: The Barettas Katie Bulley Discusses ‘Touche’ And More

Review Fix chats with Katie Bully, who discusses the band’s new track, Touche, as well as their goals for 2021.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Katie Bulley: It was when I was a young competitive dancer. It was their where a really got the concept of song structure and feeling the rhythm.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Bulley: Well I usually write the skeleton of the songs, try to write catchy hooks and guitar solos. Once I have the “skeleton” done… Lauren (drummer) brings it to life like Frankenstein. It’s really up to her which songs we use for the band I just throw them out there

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Bulley: Love, music, and hooligans

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Bulley: It’s the only reason I’m alive today. It’s a lifesaver! It’s therapy! It’s my obsession.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Bulley: if Jack White and Gwen Stefani had a baby that would be me and if Travis Barker taught everything he knows to someone that would be Lauren

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Bulley: There is a freedom we exude when we’re live. That, and we cheer each other on more.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Bulley: Well we did write it back in 2010 so at the time there was a bar in Hamilton called Chè. And the owner and I were friends and one time he said “I’m creepin’ it real” so I asked him if I could use that in a song so he’s the “captian” in the song. And in the song it says “Touchè” when really we’re hearing “To Chè”

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

Bulley: We’re just hoping for health and for our record to turn some heads that have a lot of influence. That, and working on new material.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Bulley: The album is out January 29th we hope you enjoy some raspy vocals mixed with a ton of vibrato. You’ll love the drums and harmonies Lauren added. She went to school for music! I didn’t but I’m street smart so I think we mesh well.
