Review Fix chats with Doyle Alexander, guitarist, and singer of Delilah Daybreaks, who discusses the band’s creative process and more.

Review Fix: How did the project start?

Doyle Alexander: We started back in 2015 originally just me and Mycah and another guy who was originally supposed to play drums. Mycah and I had sorta a falling out with him after it seemed like he was really holding us back, and the vibe just wasn’t there with him anymore so we got Owen. I had jammed with Owen for a year or two before we had even started Delilah Daybreaks, and I knew he was a cool guy so it just seemed kinda natural to have him as the drummer.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Alexander: The song writing process has changed up a bit recently with the stuff we are currently working on but, back when we were writing [Redacted] it would be me writing a skelton of a song with basic chords and most of the lyrics. Then I would bring it to the guys and we would build it from there, at least most of the time. Nowadays, we try to write as much as we possibly can together just to make sure that we’re all happy with the final product, and on top of that writing with all three of us together has always resulted in the best stuff in the past.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Alexander: In my opinion, that song would be Confessional. That was written kinda the same way as the other stuff on [Redacted]. The biggest difference between Confessional and the other songs on the EP, is that Confessional started with just lyrics and when I heard it in my head it was almost exactly like you hear it on the recording.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

Alexander: We want to try to write the best songs that we have written, and hopefully connect with more people.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Alexander: I want it to connect with them, I want our songs to potentially help people when they feel alone. I want our music to help remind people that no matter how bad shit is right now, it will get better if you keep putting your best foot forward everyday.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Alexander: We have something we are announcing very soon that is going to be very cool, and we are currently writing a new EP that should come out later in the year.
