Review Fix Exclusive: Elijah Rock Talks ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ Music Video

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Elijah Rock, who discusses his new music video, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

Review Fix: What was it like filming this video?

Elijah Rock: I had a fantastic time shooting the music video first because it was my second time directing, which I love to do and secondly because I used downtown Las Vegas as the backdrop.

Review Fix: Any challenges?

Rock: I didn’t experience many challenges at all, it was a pretty easy shoot.

Review Fix: Does it change the message of the song at all?

Rock: I think the concept of the video actually enhances the song which speaks to the broken dreams that people experience in their lives and how they cope with such misfortune. From what I know, Al Dubin, the lyricist was himself going through a rough time when he penned the song.

Review Fix: Any fun moments behind the scenes?

Rock: It was fun driving the Lincoln around Downtown Freemont Street in Las Vegas. It certainly turned heads!

Review Fix: Any lessons learned?

Rock: It wasn’t so much what I learned as feeling the sadness of people’s silent despair. It certainly reminds me to be more empathetic to fellow humans particularly these days with the pandemic and the loss of our friends and loved ones. In general, we need to be kinder to each other because we don’t know what demons or misfortunes people are struggling with.

Review Fix: How do you feel now that the whole album is out?

Rock: I have so many mixed feelings. I feel excited that I birthed this project after waiting over a year since its completion to release due to the pandemic.  And yet, I feel frustrated that the pandemic and world events have made it difficult to promote through live shows and in-studio TV performances. I’m hopeful however, that the album will stand the test of time and find its audience.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Rock: I am thrilled to be performing an album release concert in Las Vegas in October and New York City in November. I have a few virtual daytime TV performances that I’m also excited about. The goal is to start touring the album.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Rock: A lot of time we don’t get a chance to thank publicists and radio promoters. I’d like to thank my publicist Tom Estey who is working tirelessly to make people aware of me and my album. Also, international radio promoter Stephen Wrench who helped me reach #1 on the World Indie Music Charts and #2 on the Euro Indie Charts. Lastly, Neal Sapper who is championing the album on US/National Jazz Radio. It takes a team to rise to the top and I appreciate their efforts and commitment to this project.
