Snoopy, The Fighter Ace?
Thoughts on “Snoopy Flying Ace” Demo on the X-Box 360:
The last place you’d expect to see a competent flight-sim is on the X-Box 360 Live Marketplace and the last character you’d expect to see on the cover of said game is Snoopy.
Nevertheless, the classic “Peanuts” K-9 has traded his doghouse dreams of aerial dog-fights against the Red Baron and the flying circus and turned them into a reality on the 360, resulting in easily one of the best games to ever grace the Live Marketplace.
Graphically, “Snoopy Flying Ace” is rock solid, making you feel like you’re playing anything but a game that takes place in the world of a comic strip. Realistic-looking scenery sets the tone and great-looking character models and planes create a feast for the eyes in one of the best looking Live Arcade games to ever be released.
Feeling eerily similar to the X-Box classic “Crimson Skies,” “Snoopy Flying Ace” is remarkably easy to control, making the game accessible to anyone who plays it. With a simple press of the A button, you can speed your plane up, enabling you to catch up with your enemies and engage them in combat. With a tap or hold of the X button, you can slow down to make hard turns or turn your guns on an enemy. With simple control such as this, multiplayer dog fights are sure to be a ton of fun, as they rely on the mastery of the button presses and not dumb button-mashing luck.
As well, there is also plenty of depth to the combat. While the first playable mission forces you to only use machine guns, there are several other weapons to choose from, all with plenty of customization options later in the game. Because of this, it’s easy to see how much fun is to be had from this title, simply from the demo alone.
With solid graphics, pinpoint control and a license that has begged for a solid game for ages, “Snoopy Flying Ace” is a title that begs to be purchased.
Don’t let that cute dog fool you, the Red Baron is sure to have his hands full.
