TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: Still No Belt, Same Drama

Away from the continued pushes of Ethan Carter III, Samuel Shaw and the continued drama between Bad Influence and Joseph Park, there wasn’t much to talk about on this week’s episode of TNA’s Impact Wrestling.

The card was decent and was comprised of the two semifinal matches in the TNA World Heavyweight Title Tournament. The smart decision would have been for Bobby Roode to take on Kurt Angle in the finals, as they have the most momentum and in-ring chemistry, but naturally that wasn’t the way the company went. Magnus will fight Jeff Hardy for the World Title at Final Resolution, while Angle and Roode angle will continue to steal TV time and have literally no impact on the company.

What a waste.

Speaking of a waste, the continued drama between Dixie Carter and AJ Styles just won’t die. Styles needs to get back on the show as soon as possible.

After another week of weak decisions, TNA continues to drag along. Bad Influence and The Bromans can’t be on the show for two hours and the same old match ups can’t solve this company’s problems.

Matches:

World Title Tournament Semifinals: Tables Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Roode: Not a bad opener. Roode was all over Hardy, but of course, the charismatic enigma was chock full of counters and crowd-pleasing theatrics. At one point, both competitors went through a table at the same time and in typical TNA fashion, the ref didn’t know went through first, so the match was restarted. After the Twist of Fate and Senton, Hardy looked to have the advantage, but he couldn’t hit the Superplex through the table for the win. After a counter landed Hardy crotch first on the ropes, Roode went for a Suplex on the outside, but Hardy countered with a kick that sent Roode to the outside, through a table.

Ethan Carter III vs. Earl Hebner: Carter pinned Hebner with one finger after he forced the legendary referee to lay down and have his son, Bryan count to three.

TNA World Heavyweight Champions Godderz and Robbie E w/Zema Ion vs. Gunner and James Storm: A quick match that ended after Gunner got DQed for beating “too hard” on the Bromans and striking a referee. It looks like the drama between Storm and Gunner will continue.

TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim w/ Lei’D Tapa vs. Laura Dennis: Kim once again was super dominant and quickly polished off Dennis with the Eat Defeat. After the match, Kim hit Dennis with her finisher, again, while Tapa and ODB faced off.

World Title Tournament Semifinals: Last Man Standing:  Kurt Angle vs. Magnus: This was lengthy TV match that ended thanks to interference from Roode, who hit Angle with a Death Valley Driver/Neckbreaker, which allowed Magnus to steal the win. After the match, Hardy and Magnus stared each other down.
