‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Sequel Announced

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” skated passed expectations this weekend $65+ plus domestic opening weekend—with that Paramount Pictures is readying a sequel.

This morning, the studio announced they are prepping a sequel for June 3, 2016.

“Transformers” director Michael Bay is set to return to produce the sequel under his Platinum Dunes banner, screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will also return to pen the sequel.

The announcement fails to mention whether director Jonathan Liebsman will return to direct the film.

Nowadays, studios tend to announce sequels before the film is released—but due to the fact “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” has had its fair share of bad publicity, there’s no surprise as to why they waited. When Bay said at a 2012 Nickelodean upfront presentation that the turtles are “from an alien race.” The uproar caused many changes—one being reverting the turtles back into mutants, and many assumed the film was a disaster waiting to happen.
