Review Fix chats with Daddy’s Cash Saxophonist Michal Jasiczek talks about the band’s new two-album project, as well as playing with blues performer John Lee Hooker Jr. and the development of the band’s sound.

Review Fix: What was the creative process like for this album?
Michal Jasiczek: We started our musical journey playing the blues…every artist begins with something. In our case it was playing blues alongside John Lee Hooker Jr. As we kept playing more and more we felt that sticking to one specific style was cramping our creative urges so we started exploring new sounds. After awhile, we realized that the R&B/Soul sound was something we really wanted to try out and we created our second album, “Body Bluesâ€.  Finally, the music world opened up a totally new sphere for us. Inspired by people we met on our journey, we ended up incorporating Rap/Hip-Hop into our music. That is where we are now, but the music world has much more to explore and we are eager to find more.
Review Fix: How was “This is my Party” written?
Jasiczek: Songs on our 2-album-project represent individual stages of a day. It includes waking-up (“Good Morningâ€) Breakfast (“Breakfast On The Roadâ€) and so on…Of course we couldn’t skimp out on partying during our musical day. That’s where “This Is My Party†joins the action. We worked on this one keeping in mind the spirit of a sophisticated and classy celebration which we feel is too often ignored. We heard it when it was done and absolutely loved it… that’s why we decided to name “This Is My Party†our first single.
Review Fix: What song on this album do you think is most indicative of your sound?
Jasiczek: Definitely “Commuter Lane.†This song will be released in our “Goodbye†album. Our sound is all about exploring the stylistic boundaries of various instruments and we were able to create an exceptional display of that with this song.
Review Fix: How would you describe the sound to someone who has never heard your band?
Jasiczek: Something completely new – authentic R&B with modern rap / hip-hop influences that’s created by real instruments, not computers. In addition to having 14 instruments creating the beat and the rhythm of the music, imagine having 4 amazing vocalists rapping and singing on top of that and you’ve got Daddy’s Cash.
Review Fix: What was it like to work with John Lee Hooker Jr?
Jasiczek: We have a huge amount of respect for John Lee. He is an incredibly soul-enriching person and just as importantly, a 100% professional artist in what he does with music. We were incredibly honored that he decided to join us in the creation of our first album.  His passion and work ethic infected every band member. The chemistry we developed together by playing countless hours in the studio really payed off during our concerts. Great thanks to John Lee for what have we learned from him and what have we experienced together working on “That’s What The Blues Is All About†album.
Review Fix: How did he change the band’s sound?
Jasiczek: I wouldn’t say that he actually changed the sound of Daddy’s Cash as much as help us develop it and take it to the next level. Blues was the kind of music we we’re playing then. That’s probably why the musical paths of John Lee and Daddy’s Cash came together.  Blues connects people… whether they plan on it or not. But I have to admit that John Lee brought a lot of spice to our music. He really showed us the soul of blues. Not only how to play it right, but primarily how to feel it right.
Review Fix: How do you want this album to be remembered?
Jasiczek: This album is really when Daddy’s Cash found our true sound. The wide variety of songs, instruments, and great musical artists playing a fusion of R&B, soul, and rap/hip-hop is what every member of the band believes is our natural style. That’s the lasting impression that we hope this album will leave over time.
Review Fix: What’s next for Daddy’s Cash?
Jasiczek: We are hard at work on our next project. We hope to create a sound that will be little bit more pop.. but won’t disappoint our current fans. All musicians have to find their place in our music and it has to funky! Be patient and keep an ear out because soon we will be releasing something new for you.
