Keith Emerson, master keyboardist, was a member of two of Progressive Rock’s iconic bands, The Nice and Emerson Lake and Palmer. His synthesis of rock, classical and jazz elements in his playing on timeless recordings like “America†(The Nice) “Pictures at an Exhibition,†“Tarkus,†“Karn Evil 9,†“Piano Concerto No.1,†“Take a Pebble†and “Pirates†(ELP) set new standards in the studio and live performances. Emerson’s work on film soundtracks and his solo albums display his phenomenal technique and compositional genius.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer sold over 40 million albums, played at the Isle of Wight and California Jam festivals and redefined the parameters of classic rock with their musical genius and stirring live performances.
Emerson has been touring with Greg Lake (see this website) and is reuniting with Lake and drummer Carl Palmer to reform Emerson, Lake and Palmer at the High Voltage Festival in London on July 25. It is the must-see classic rock event of the summer.
Reviewfix recently chatted with this humble virtuoso and got his thoughts on the tour with Lake, ELP’s long awaited reunion, soundtrack work, The Nice, jazz pianists, his formative years and the life of an accomplished musician. The interview is heartfelt, thoughtful and revealing.
