The problem with the name of this episode is that it makes you think right off the bat that there will be some sort of action this week on “True Blood. ”
A more fitting title would have been “Looking for Trouble. ”
Continuing to develop the back stories of several of the newer characters on the show and get closer to the bottom of the drama between Bill and Sookie, this week’s episode, again, does more setting up than anything else. As a result, the string of weaker episodes this season continues, making one wonder if this show is ever going to reclaim its sexy and bloody roots.
The new storylines involving the werewolves and other vampires are interesting, but seeing the weres shapeshift in broad daylight is too much of stretch, even for this show. Likewise, learning more about their connection with Eric and the vampires from Mississippi has been fun, but after waiting for a month and having only sparse clues to work with, it’s easy to find yourself frustrated with the lack of action on the show as of late.
The same thing goes for the relationship with Tera and her new vampire friend, which is beginning to get incredibly boring. Both are talented actors that can produce, it just feels like the dialogue is too lackluster and holding them back.
Jason’s new fling looks to be an interesting one as well, but that flame looks like its going to need some time before it truly begins to burn. Not that that’s a bad thing, it’s just more drama oriented this time around than it has been previously.
Ironically, this new plot line speaks for the entire show in a way. It’s not that the drama has been bad in Bon Temps this season, it’s just a far cry from the sleezy, sultry, slaughter-fest it was just a year ago.
