Episode Commentary: Mind Bullets or Bang Bang Bang Bang Motherfucker
After two episodes of dealing with Lenore and her antics, Tanya finally has had enough. But in typical Tanya fashion, the roar she should have let out ends up being a whimper and of course, Ray is stuck in the middle. Add in another conference between Tanya and her pimp friend and a surprise ending and you have a pretty nifty episode of Hung this week.
Building off the drama from the first two weeks, something big is bound to happen between Lenore and Tanya. It just hasn’t happened yet. Nevertheless, the anticipation is building every week and until the explosion finally happens, things should be pretty interesting.
The side story between Ray’s wife Jessica and new husband Ronnie is building up as well, making for some witty drama. Anne Heche [Jessica] has been solid from episode one in this series, but has been hitting her stride this season as the sexy ex-wife who is just looking to be loved by a real man. With Ronnie’s [Eddie Jemison] business struggling and his new insistence on building a family, Jessica is forced with a major decision, one that she’s not ready to make and shouldn’t be for at least a few weeks.
Until then, she’ll just continue spending time with her ex-husband, doing everything, but be intimate and discuss the past with him. The tease that this presents may frustrate some viewers, but with the “Happiness Consultants†business not hitting its stride yet, this show needs as much depth as possible.
The slow development of the relenting of Ray’s kids as well is another side plot that looks to get interesting in the long haul. It’s obvious that both of them are supposed to be annoying and even with that being said, they are both nailing the aggressive and lonely teenage angle to a T. While they don’t exactly shine on the screen, both Sianoa_Smit-McPhee and Charlie Saxton are serving their purpose on the show and have added an extra element to a show that needs as much depth as it can get.
Again, like in previous weeks, this week’s episode is not as sexy as it could have been, but considering how bad their sex for hire business has been doing this season, you’d expect the drama to take precedent. Far from orgasm-inducing, the drama thus far has been solid nonetheless and with some more development and a few nice twists and turns, the second season of “Hung†may not be its last.
