The Doughboys were a working band in the ‘60’s and released two singles (“Rhoda Mendelbaum†and “Everybody Knows My Nameâ€) on Bell Records, played WMCA “Good Guysâ€shows with the Buckinghams and Beach Boys and served as the house band at the legendary Café Wha in 1968. They reunited in 2000 and released “Is It Now?†in 2007 to rave reviews. Little Steven, of Sopranos and Bruce Springsteen E Street band fame, called the song “Black Sheep†one of the coolest songs of 2008 on his Q104.3 FM Underground Garage radio show. Myke Scavone (lead vocals and harmonica), Gar Francis (guitar), Mike Caruso (bass) and Richard X. Heyman (drums) are a throwback band with a current sensibility. Their live show has to be seen and heard to be believed (See our Yardbirds show review and stay tuned for a review of the Doughboys June 18th show at the Village Underground on this site).
Their most recent album “Act Your Rageâ€(2010) is a rocking affair that doesn’t let up with songs like “I’m Not Your Man,†“Break Out,†“Why Can’t She See Me,†and “Turn Your Love On Me,†along with unique interpretations of the Kinks â€It’s Alright†and the Moody Blues “Tuesday Afternoon.†Reviewfix.com recently spoke to frontman Scavone and touched on the embryonic days of the band and its breakup, his tenure in Ram Jam in the seventies (“Black Bettyâ€), the wonderful chemistry of the 21st century edition of the Doughboys and life as a rock and roll singer.

Myke Scavone has the ‘entertainment’ in entertainment DOWN. And his rock vocals? Well, I think they are cleaner and better than Jagger’s.
