Tears of a Clowny

Episode Commentary: Clowny Freaks

Every kid goes through phases in life that they are not proud of later in life. It could be playing Dungeons and Dragons [one that some unfortunate souls never escape from], watching a TV show or in Rusty Cuyler’s case, it’s a band. Enfatuated with “The Clownies,” obviously an Insane Clown Posse rip-off, Rusty gets obsessed and goes on a wrecking spree around the Cuyler home that not only pisses his father off, but manages to turn his Grandmother on.

Don’t ask, it’s Squidbillies and it’s hilarious.

Always out of his mind anyway, Dana Snyder will have you on the floor with some of his one liners in this episode.

Who knew elderly squids loved rebels in paint?

Seeing the elder Cuyler get so crazy is easily one of the funniest moments in this episode and arguably one of the best moments in the show’s history.

Things get worse though when Early decides to embrace the fad himself, especially with Sheriff already a part of the band’s legion. Together, they romp through the town and are as thick as thieves.

That is until reality sets in for the younger Cuyler, who finally realizes that he’s into the same music as his father.

Totally not cool.

Like a foul-mouthed episode of “Growing Pains,” Early learns you can’t turn back the clock [or does he? Of course not. Early never learns anything], while Rusty goes on to the next fad, one that you’ll be even more surprised to learn, especially considering where the Cuylers come from.

Ah, boy squids will be boy squids.

And apparently girl squids will be whores.

A nice little spin to the episode is seeing the ladies of squid country working a side job as a pair of over-the-hill truck stop whores.

Only in Georgia.

Only on this show.
