FOLLOW-UP TO “BIRTHDAY SEX,†RIAA PLATINUM #1 SMASH HIT OF 2009
Jeremih featured on upcoming BET new artists series this fall, Rising Icons, sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka
(New York, NY) Mega-talented singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Chicago sensation Jeremih – who blew out of the Windy City in 2009 to explode into history with his RIAA platinum #1 Def Jam debut single “Birthday Sex,†and his self-titled #1 debut album – returns to the game one year later with “I Like,†the lead track from his eagerly anticipated sophomore release, ALL ABOUT YOU, arriving September 28th.
Coinciding with his new album release this fall, Jeremih will be featured on BET’s upcoming new 30-minute cable tv series, Rising Icons, which will offer a glimpse into the life of an emerging artist by chronicling their journeys at home and on tour. Other guests on the series, sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka, include Def Jam’s The-Dream and Chrisette Michele, along with Keri Hilson, Kid Cudi, Hal Linton, Melanie Fiona, Ryan Leslie, and Wale.
“I Like†featuring fellow Def Jam artist Ludacris has already won radio airplay on close to 75 stations across the country. The song was co-written by Jeremih and songwriter Keith James (Who is currently working on Jeremih’s sophomore album), and produced by Mick Schultz. (Most recently, Jeremih and Mick Schultz co-wrote & produced “Tumblin’ Down,†the debut single from Toronto beauty Jenna Andrews on Island Records.)
Jeremih’s “Birthday Sex†was one of the surprises of the summer of 2009 – it had the distinction of ousting Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It†from the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart. “Birthday Sex†rose to #1 on the Mediabase Rhythmic chart, #1 on MySpace (for 3 weeks), and #6 on the Hot 100, while the video was added to MTV, MTV HITS, MTV U and MTV JAMS. Jeremih performed the song at the annual BET Awards pre-show event on June 28th, two days before the release of his debut album. To date, cumulative single sales for “Birthday Sex†and its follow-up “Imma Star (Everywhere We Are)†have topped 2.2 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Jeremih [Felton] was a musical prodigy since early childhood on Chicago’s infamous Southside. He was given his first set of drums at age three, and by the time he got to Morgan Park High School, was adept at the traps, and piano. Jeremih’s intelligence enabled him to skip junior year, graduate high school at age 16, and enter the University of Illinois as an engineering science major.
But when he started getting involved with on-campus talent shows, music took over. He transferred to Columbia College, one of Chicago’s premier art schools, and began collaborating on demos with music student Mick Schultz. Their mutual love for music led to the creation of “My Ride,†Jeremih’s first song to hit local radio airwaves on Power-92 (also streaming at the MySpace site). “Birthday Sex†followed in October 2008, and Jeremih was soon the talk of Chicago, a local hometown hero. He was signed to Def Jam in March 2009, and “Birthday Sex†was officially released in April.
“I have no boundaries,†Jeremih says. “It excites me to see what there is to come. I’m a writer, I’m a singer, I’m a producer, and I can play instruments. I feel like that’s what sets me apart from all the other artists out there.â€
