“Canadian Lover/Falcon’s Escape” – Destroyer

More spoken word than straight up love song “Canadian Lover/Falcon’s Escape” by Destroyer has a tinge of sadness while it attempts to empower. At least that’s what the beginning of the track sounds like. It then turns into this hard rocking slap in the face that tells you that you’re better than whatever is trying to pull you down. More than that It’s a likeable song and not bad for a freebie.

“Bittersweet” – Fantasia

With her latest album currently in stores “Bittersweet” by Fantasia is a surprise free download. Well worth a purchase price this track is classic R&B by a singer whose voice evokes dramatic experiences with a man that who did her wrong, yet she still second guesses her decision to dump him. “Bittersweet” is a song about letting go, but you can’t help but look back on the good times.

“Release Me” – The Like

Remember those ‘60s tunes that you love listening to? “Leader of the Pack” and “Jimmie Mack” are classic tunes that make you get up and do your own cheesy choreography and have a good time singing along – “Release Me” by The Like will have you doing the same thing. It has a catchy tune with straight-forward lyrics that are easy to sing along with. It’ll be one of your new favorites.

“Unbroken, Unshaven” – The Budos Band

Sometimes a great horn section is all you need to make a great song. Luckily “Unbroken, Unshaven” by The Budos Band has not only that but strong musicianship on drums and other instruments to make this a rocking track. It’s the type of song that makes you seek out everything The Budos Band has ever done.

“They Can’t Take That Away From Me” – Brian Wilson

There’s a reason why standards are remade and this up-tempo Beach Boys sound given to Brian Wilson’s version of “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” makes for a pleasant listening experience. It’s short and sweet and will be in your head all day in a good way.

“From Africa to Malaga” – Jj

A good dance beat drives Jj’s “From Africa to Malaga.” If you want a comparison think Paul Simon’s album “Rhythm of the Saints.” This interpretation of world music makes for a pleasurable listening experience even though the lyrics don’t always seem to fit.

“Pure Gold” – Kelli Scarr

Musically “Pure Gold” by Kelli Scarr is beautifully written. Melody and lyrics make the perfect companions to this deeply introverted tune. Having said that it is one of the most depressing songs you’ll ever hear. If you’re in a melancholy mood and looking for some sympathy then this track is for you. Otherwise you should be ecstatically happy if you want to give it a shot.
