Thoughts on Season Two of Hung

Much like another HBO show this season, “True Blood,” “Hung” had plenty of highs and lows, but unlike the vampire sitcom, it maintained some nice momentum for the majority of it that made it more than worthwhile to it’s dedicated audience.

Nevertheless, the last episode was a complete stinker, voice of any type of drama or intrigue that may end up impacting the rest of the series as a whole.

With so many intangibles in play and new characters in the fold, “Hung” had the ability to deliver the goods and still leave viewers pondering what was going to happen next.

However, what happened was kind of the opposite.

For one, during the last two episodes of the season, there were no spots showing any of Ray’s clients. For a show that’s supposed to be about a male prostitute, there was a complete lack of sexiness. Sure, the show has proven itself and has never depended on the skin to keep its audience; nonetheless, it couldn’t have hurt to have some time dedicated to Ray and the ladies.

In the end, to be completely void of any type of steam was mind-boggling.

Likewise, with so many different story arcs, it’s shocking that none of them developed anywhere by the end of the season. All we know is that Ray is thinking about selling his home and getting out of the business, but it seems that he’s patched up things with Tanya and is ready to take another stab at being a gigolo. The same thing goes for Jessica, who looks ready to leave Ronnie and isn’t sure if her and Ray have a future.

Mike and Frances’ future is up in the air as well, after Tanya told Frances that Mike may not have been aware of the real situation at hand. All the viewer gets is a tease as to what may happen in the future, rather than something tangible to look forward to next season.

All in all, all of these situations will get played out eventually, but the writers of “Hung” may have made a huge mistake by forcing viewers to wait.
